Corn Syrup......
Didn't the previous administration make colleges take rape cases more seriously by applying leverage by threatening to take away public funding?
http://www.heritage.org/education/report/how-american-college-campuses-have-become-anti-due-process
But now they're not required to allow students freedom of speech and expression because they're a private institution?
Sounds like double standards to me.
I'm sure harvard doesn't need federal funds to run, but i'm sure they don't want to pass up free money.
It's not as if their president gave a speech on... free speech: http://www.harvard.edu/president/speech/2017/2017-commencement-speech
Free speech doesn't mean free reign. Harvard is a private institution. They can be as selective as they like. Don't get me wrong. I am all for free speech. But teens need to know that there are consequences for your free speech in the court of public opinion.
There is virtually no good that comes from a social media account like facebook.
I laughed at this too. The mentality that you can say and do whatever you want online and it won't come back to haunt you in the real world has been drilled into the minds of kiddies everywhere. They get away with so much crap on games and streams that they make that poor judgment part of their lives. Then they forget they are on an account that is attached to their real names and BOOM... no Harvard for you or you are walked to HR and no Job for you.
We breed trolls online and sometimes... a troll gets busted.
I really doubt that accepted high school students can ever be considered to represent the university that accepted them. Schools are not Companies. They're purpose is to teach students, not police their thoughts.
The term racism has changed in definition and used to describe anything racial today. Your definition is likely very different than what other people think is racist.
Denying the holocaust is an opinion. It's not illegal (at least here in the US).
What's next? booting people because they disagree with man made climate change?
Just going to state here that this is not my own opinions on the matter before i begin.OK Denying something that is fact is NOT opinion. I can't have an OPINION that water isn't made from H2O. I can be WRONG. But being WRONG isn't a damn opinion. Things I can have an opinion about. "the weather is nice." Sure.. That's an opinion. Maybe you have a migraine and sunshine makes your head throb. So in my OPINION the weather is nice but to you it isn't. If I were to say something like. "Climate change isn't happening." That isn't an opinion. It's just WRONG. Science has proven this. History has proven the Holocost happened. If you state. "I believe the Holocost didn't happen" then you are wrong.
Couching being wrong as an opinion does not make it irrefutable. IT just means you don't know what an opinion is.

I'm not going to address h20.
With climate change, i specifically said man made climate change. Climate changes all the time. There's ice samples we can use to reference the past climate of the planet. There's rock samples that showed that we had an ice age. We have historical records of average temps around the world for the past 1000 years we can reference.
When someone says "We can't know the precise effect that man has made changes to the climate", where and how is that statement wrong? I have never seen a definitive % or amount in degrees that says if man wasn't around, the temperate would be this.
If someone were to say that, they would be considered a climate change denier. The term used today means you don't fully agree that man is 100% responsible for the current climate change.
Same thing with the holocaust. If someone says "I agree the holocaust happened, but i'm not too sure about the actual amounts of people killed", they're labeled as a holocaust denier.
Wikipedia puts it like this "Holocaust denial is the act of denying the genocide of Jews and other groups in the Holocaust during World War II.[1] Holocaust denial often includes the following claims: that Nazi Germany's Final Solution was aimed only at deporting Jews from the Reich, but that it did not include the extermination of Jews; that Nazi authorities did not use extermination camps and gas chambers to mass murder Jews; or that the actual number of Jews killed was significantly lower than the historically accepted figure of 5 to 6 million, typically around a tenth of that figure.[2][3][4]"
So the word denier isn't quite being used as per the dictionary definition, it's anything that isn't considered mainstream.
I dunno. If the students aren't committing crimes then why police them? It's a slippery slope when offensive speech is used as a way to punish them. It will only lead down a bad path where people will not be free to talk about things the want to, and at a university, that's a bad place to be.does being a private school really have anything to do with it? what if its a highly selective pubic university like Berkeley for instance
Which is probably just as bad for you.
Fuck Harvard and Fuck PC.
It's completely up to personal opinion and whomever runs the schools. I have no say in the matter except my own personal opinion. And in my opinion, i'm at a loss to identify behavior that would qualify for rescinding acceptance letters that's not already covered by the laws as crimes.so acceptance into public university should only be rescinded if the applicant commits a crime is what you are saying. Seems dubious to me.
if they take federal funding are they still private?
Here are the memes that are at the center of this story (supposedly), if anyone was interested. I'm a 1st Amendment absolutist, but I understand how these could be considered quite offensive by some people.

These are existing memes. None of them are original. Aren't you assuming that they believe in these things? This isn't exactly a "free speech" issue so much as it is an issue of prospective students signalling to admissions that they are unqualified applicants. Had these same students turned in incomprehensible written essays, they would also have been turned down. Again, that is not a "freedom of speech" issue either, where the school would be punishing them for their words/beliefs. It's just that the students have demonstrated they are not qualified.
Fuck Harvard and Fuck PC. Kids need to be left alone to be Kids, not corporate fucking robots.
It's half of what's wrong with this world.
Don't buy guns, have an iphone, and spend your life texting. Oh, and don't forget the hoodie. We need to break out of this kid funk we're in.
And for gods sake rescued them a puppy. It's well known that kids with pets aren't as screwed up.
Lol. There's no proof of any of that. How about we teach them not to be racist bigots. That's what my parents taught me. What the fuck is wrong with you people and common sense?
Oh and I buy plenty of guns, teach kids to hunt, how to get along with nature, sportsmanship, etc. and get along with people just fine. Shove that PC crap.
Lol. There's no proof of any of that.
Teach your kids to not share offensive memes on facebook.
At least stick to 4chan if you have to share offensive memes.
Crisis averted.
Ivy-Leage schools are a joke.

You don't know WHAT specifically was posted, in what setting, and what context.thats different than saying i dont like [current president] and it isnt political.
That's what SJW groups do online. Its often groups of freakish looking obese women and effeminate guys with weird hair dyes that spend all day policing the internet, and when they find "the devil" (Trump supporter, or someone making a off-color joke, etc.), they will dox the person wherever they can and try to attack them with the tools available to them, such as having everyone call their employer if they can find it on linked-in and the like and complain about the employees bigotry, contact sponsors/advertisers to hurt businesses, or in this case if they saw he was accepted to Harvard then inform the school and demand action threatening protests and consulting media outlets and the like on why "XYZ administrator" or manager supports "hate speech".Screw that, when are they hiring for the position of snooping all students social media for bad memes? I think I could handle that.
Which is their right, but you have to ask how it came to their attention in the first place, and if they had SJW armies demanding action or justification as to why Mr XYZ admissions officer, if he's not a soldier himself, is promoting hate speech. After all, crazy leftists freak out like this on campus, and no one bats an eye because, if anything, she's a "victim". But now reverse the roles and imagine for a moment if a white male student approached some black females standing peacefully out of the way and just started screaming at them at the top of his lungs for 15 mins... police would show up, he'd be violently arrested, and immediately expelled from school.Universities and employers not only look at ability of prospective students/employees but they also look at character. These students they felt where lacking in character and or held values that the school did not want their student body representing.
Which is excellent advice, particularly in Europe where liberal governments will arrest people complaining about Islamic terrorism too vocally for example, but that's exactly what they want. The majority will be afraid of saying anything that isn't PC, and thus create this perception that a tiny vocal minority is in fact a majority opinion, even if that's the opposite of what is the case, because most people keep quiet. That's the type of thought-policing that allows a small minority to control the agenda and news/information dissemination and attain power over a plurality. My kids are teenagers and they don't don't use social media other than watch youtube. I've ingrained in them anything you put on line will be there forever and expect anyone to be able to see it.
