I want to clear something up about stress testing. I use Prime, Orthos and OCCT for these purposes. My question is about dual-core CPUs, is it neccesary to run 2 instances of Prime or Orthos for dual cores, one for each core? If i want to stress it really hard will it help to run more than 2 instances, say 3 or 4, for a dual core?
 
The version of prime95 I use will automatically open 4 threads when I run a test on my q6600.
I believe the version of orthos I had would also run 4 threads on my q6600 and 2 on my 3ghz hyperthreaded P4c.

I do not think it would stress it harder than if you just had one instance of it open running a thread for each core.
 
Is Prime95 the best stress tool?? What about OCCT and InterlBurnTest?
Which one should I use>?
 
You can find dual-core versions of Prime95 for sure. All I do is load up Prime95 and it opens two instances automatically.

I think thats it, there is a new Prime 95 v25.6 for duals/quads, i was using the older one v24.14 that had to run twice for dual cores. I dont think there is a dual-core version of Orthos???
 
You should run IntelBurnTest to do your stress-testing as well. It will automatically load all of your cores and it's actually based on the program Intel uses to test their CPUs at the factory so it's pretty much the best app for the job.

Intel burn test will solve the problem for you nicely..........
