strange pause before windows loads what gives?

Ok bear with me while I try and explain this :p
the last few days when I start my PC up there is a very strange pause before the "loading win XP" screen...itll get past where it searches for a bottable CD rom then just sits at a black screen for like a minute then itll switch over to the loading XP screen (you know the black screen with the XP logo and the blue loading bar)
This has only been happoning as of recent..about 3-4 days what could be causeing it?

specs

NF7-S rev2
A XP 2500+ @ stock for testing
1gb Corsair XMS PC4000 (runs memtest three days on end no problem)
160gb Segate x2
80gb seagate SATA
BFG 5900 (5950 :p )
Herc Game theater XP
Antec true power 550

Need more just ask me :)

now is there a setting im missing in my BIOS that I should have enabled?

I thought would be it as well so I disabled the LAN int he BIOS and unplugged the cable just so it couldnt bitch :p
and still no dice...only other thing I can think of right off...is when in windows for some goofy reason windows sees my boot drive as drive F and my back up drive is now drive C !
this is on a fresh install of XP as well...never seen my drives get crossed like that ever...sad thing is nothing has changed except me taking out one hard drive off my SATA controller
 
I shouldn't have to ask but have you tried disabling every other boot option other than HD?

There is a PowerToy you can DL at MS that will map boot-up. Perhaps give that a try?

ive tried everything except unplugging all my other drives :p
Im at work right now so once i get a chance to goof with it at home i shall :)

When you had both drives, were they in a raid array? If so dont forget to disable SATA raid on the controller and subsequently raid controller boot enabled. "Shot in the dark"

No RAID at this time. they were seperates used as MP3 storage and file swap drives.
and SATA boot has been taken off as well.
Im just waiting for my shift to get over with so i can get back home and screw with it :p

windows will try and start every network connection you have in your registry. so if you have any old ones they can cause a pause. while it looks for the non existant network devices.

Same thing with USB, if you disabled some usb ports that may happen as well. or if the BIOS is looking for bootable devices on the USB ports.

Its a fresh install of windows. So I havent added anything to the registry as of yet.
my shift is over in about 30 mins so Im anxious to go home and screw with it.

Only other thing I can think of right off hand is, is it possible my CPU is breaking down due to my higher voltages, and causing me shit?

I wouldn't think that is possible...CPU's either work or don't work.

ive redone everything and still givin me shit :/

I have exact same problem. Except mine started to manifest since day one.
My sys specs:
MSI 648
P4 1.6oc@2.2GHz
2*80G,1*20GB HDs
ATA card [20GB is only connected to it]
9700 Pro
3COM 3C905B-TX NIC

Everything unneeded in bios is disable. Boots of the 1st hd. Onboard Lan is disabled.
After the initial boot, passes that and it goes to ATA card,
detects 3rd HD , goes to black screen and then it waits.
That is the same point where Visable-assassin's computer waits.
I see only 10-15s of wait period. And it's very annoying.
I've seen cheaper machines to boot up so much faster, specially the one with intel mobos.
