Project: DARKNESS

here's my first 'log.

I wanted a case that was low-key, sleek and un-assuming. My first choice of case was the Lian Li G50.
title.jpg

I returned it since the internals were just way too cramped to get a decent watercooling setup that worked well and looked decent. I saw the K60 on the Lian-li site:

but wasn't able to find it fast enough so instead, I went with the CoolerMaster Centurion 534:

not a bad looking case imo. Similar design as the LL's but it's a steel case - though it does have an aluminum front plate and nice vent / mesh going down the sides. Cheaper and I won't feel as bad cutting into / painting / possibly messing up this case.

I'm by no means a hardcore modder so you won't find crazy fabrication or bondo work or anything of the like in this worklog. This is just putting together a good looking and functional case using pretty standard tools, methods and skills.

plans include:

- painting the interior of case
- custom window
- custom panel design cutouts
- blowhole
- coupla other things...

enjoy:

1st stages...

Took the case apart and masked it for painting. Primed it w/ rustoleum primer and finished it off with a few coats of rustoleum flat black:
(that's masking tape on the top lip):

(weird lighting. case internals are actually a flat black)

if you're wondering, i didn't take the case apart rivet-by-rivet. Main reason was laziness since i was able to reach all the parts fairly easily with a spray can.

this project also entailed me gutting my old system to transfer a majority of the parts.
Old system here:

I didn't know how I should drain my old system so I just took out the WC setup as a whole before draining:

I stand corrected friend...

**UPDATE**

92mm Blowhole cut.
it was originally an 80mm but after CFM calculations on the potential negative pressure imbalance, I decided to go for 92mm
so in other words, i messed up the 80mm hole and went with 92mm ...

more importantly you have them in single channel, not dual. Losing out on a bit o' performance.

Good job so far...mo' pics!

***edit:
I should be good right? using corsair xms3200 1GBx2. one in the Dimm1 (green) and one in Dimm2 (purple)

nothing major - just added a couple of aluminum bezels to the optical drives. I was going to go full stealth using the bay covers but i liked the look of these aluminum pieces...

Incorrect. That is the correct way to setup dual channel on these boards. Opposite colors rather than same colors.

sweet, cant wait to see finished project, just make sure you put a bruise where his face is after rick james punches it. :)

Are you sure? the screening on the actual board states otherwise:

Channel A - GREEN
Channel B - PURPLE

i was wondering what i was going to do with the wack-ass 3.5" bay cover. i definitley didn't want the "Centurion" thing there. Especially because i was going to be using toggle switches and the print would still be visible.

so i tried on my bay cover from my last case and it fit nicely. jerry-rigged a permanent solution (thank you zip-ties and 3M) and installed securely...

doesn't look bad either imo - matches the outer mesh grill...

Looking good. I had also looked at stealthing the opticals on my 534 but decided it would be a hassle with the way they designed the baycovers, so I bought one of those same CM drive faces.

Nice work with the 3.5" bay, I'm still trying to work out what to do with mine...
