Steam interface update

Look at this mess.

I wouldn't be so opposed to this complete train-wreck of a UI if it wasn't enforced, but unfortunately as of the most recent Steam update there's not even any option to use the existing interface. They came up with a proper release candidate, made it obligatory, and didn't even manage to make icons for all the games beforehand in some small effort to negate the tacky, wanky design.

FUCK OFF

Was just about to make a thread. So far the only thing I dont like is the colors. Not sure why they decided on such dark greys and black.

And all the icons show up for my games.

I actually enjoy the new interface, reminds me of the Zune interface....

I dont like the missing game pictures for the buttons either, but this is really my only con.

Would have been nice to see a theme option though!

I give the update a thumbs up. You can hide games you don't have installed to reduce the 'mess'. My favorite part of it is how it interacts with the Win7 snapping feature now.

Are you one of those people that refuses to upgrade to Windows Vista/7 because you love the shitty taskbar and GUI style of Windows XP and can't handle change well? If you are then I understand why you don't like this latest Steam GUI. I looked at all of your screenshots and was left scratching my head wondering what the fuck you were crying about.

Give me my mini-list back you fucks.

The mini list option is available if you are able to wipe the tears away from your face long enough to find it.

You can change the elements of the UI around and welcome to 2 months ago. There a ton of post's floating around when the beta first hit. I like the new UI, it takes some getting used to but it's much nicer than the old one.

I actually like the new UI.
Also I don't know what you got going on OP, but all my icons show up just fine.

It's nice and clean and uses almost the same amount of screen real estate as the old GUI while showing me more information. You can even remove the little icon's if you'd like.

I really like the new UI. Granted, it needs some refinements here and there, but that'll come in time. Remember, it's still in beta.

...Go to view and than "Small Mode" for the mini-list.

Instead of coming here and making a thread 5 minutes after updating to the new GUI about how it sucks and is a mess why dont you take a look around and see what it does and how things work and than come back with some constructive criticisms instead of empty bitching.

During the Beta, they didn't save your "show" preference ( such as installed, all, etc).

Other than that, the new UI is much preferred to the old.

Ah thats new. Ive been using the new UI for a while and there were lots of complaints that it was gone so I'm not crazy. I guess its back thanks.

Looks like the same shit to me.

As long as I can keep buying games at ridiculously reduced prices, they can do whatever they want to the GUI.

Queue the poeple who despise change.

Despise change for no benefit except a tacky web 2.0 gradients/glossy button "update". If it ain't broke and so on. It' not the biggest deal, but forcing us to use this cluttered, messy crap when all steam's really about is keeping your game launchers in one place is a bit daft.

See above. I have 7 and like it fine, your conjecture amounts to nothing more than a swing and a miss. My objection with this is that it is awful. For no reason. No reason for it to be shit, but they went ahead and did it anyway. I don't understand why they went from having a legible, informative store tab, a legible, well-laid out games tab and a useful overlay and community page to the same thing with extra clutter, big oul' buttons and a visual overhaul by a seventeen year old kid on a work placement is of benefit to anyone.

Someone tell me what this offers that Steam didn't already, and do your best to keep your embarassing Ragenrok/brucedeluxe-style keyboard-mashing to the minimum. Some real, considered, well-articulated reasons, if you've any.

since you were so kind to mention me :D I got one, the ability to right click the steam icon in the task bar and launch games. couldn't do that with the old steam but now I dont have to worry about short cuts cluttering up my desktop and dont need to bother opening steam or any game folder to launch my favorite games.

And i stand by my "embarassing" keyboard mashing, is a missing icon or two really a big deal? I dont know about you but I don't stare at that list for more than a few seconds.

Edit: one more thing, mabey i missed it on the old version but having your games list separated by steam games and non steam games. I couldn't find a way of just combining them with the old version. i like how the new one lists them all alphabetically regardless of them being a shortcut or steam game.

I like it :) Been using this UI for a while now and actually prefer it over the old one. It would be nice to have the ability to revert back if you don't like it though

I even say "it's not the biggest deal" in the post you quoted, and keyboard-mashing wasn't referring to the typing, it was referring to the facetiousness/reaction image baddery. But I stand corrected, you can right-click the tray icon and launch a game which completely negates the fucked-up new interface making everything else more convoluted :p

P.S. IT LOOKS POOP 'N' ALL

Been running the beta for a while, my only main gripe was that once you switch back to minilist for games (almost necessary if you have a lot) it was missing the mini icons.

Just seen the image on the previous page had icons, and it's in the menu now, if you right click the headers they've added them back in as an option, a small change but surprisingly makes things much easier to find games in large lists. The large icons were completely over the top.

I like the new interface as well. I think the OP posted based on initial reaction.

And to answer your question, one thing it has that the old one didn't is that it loads much quicker since it doesn't use IE anymore.

The last few times in the beta I found myself clicking on a lot of buttons that weren't actually there. It left a very bad taste in my mouth, particularly on account of the fact that most of the shit they added is useless bloat.

You should spend more time with it rather than post a knee-jerk reaction.

I wasn't sure at first, but after a few weeks I liked it a lot more than the original UI.

I LOVE that it no longer uses IE too.

every once in a while I would get an issue where steam showed up in german, which would eventually correct itself. It would happen inside both steam and IE, but chrome and FF worked fine.

since going to this new UI, it hasn't happened yet.

I admit I have been wanting my mini-list back for a long time (been using beta UI for a while). It wasn't very easy to find that function in the new steam. Thanks to this thread I have it now.
