If this looking like a good thing let's add it to the guide.
The only downside is it defaulting to EVGA's team number......

Please do not delete units. If you're unsure whether or not your performance is normal, ask here first. From what you said, it looks to me like you were getting perfectly normal performance.
I can't get this to work with the setting " use specified number of cores" Tried setting it to 3 but its still using all 4 cores at 100%.
I want to free up one core hoping that it will get rid of the lag when using all 4 cores that I am experiencing.
what do I need to do to get this to work?
bastards
lol I can't blame him. I think I would do the same thing.I came across this program a few revs back and he even had a setting to switch over to their Chimp Challenge team.
Can you post the last bit of the log file?
we're in a brutal fight. it's definitely time to get back in the game right now!its getting chilly outside, almost time to get back in the game!
NICE!This is EXCELLENT. Can't tell you how annoying it was trying to get this to work normally on my system, mainly because I am lazy. Now you guys cant count an i7 920 @ 3.6ghz (normally at 3.8, wont fold at that though so some addition tweaking is required) and 2 460's folding near full time. I'll add my x2 6000+ and 8800GTX as well once I get a 92mm fan for the gtx's cooler, right now its running pretty much silent as just a place to keep a bunch of media to stream through WMP on W7 to 4 other computers.

That is awesome man! To be fair though, things got a lot easier at least on the cpu folding side of things once they got rid of that MPICH thingie that required you to have a windows password and to do that special setup with the older client.
I can't wait to see what numbers you put up. Just don't forget to also sign up for a passkey!
Ah yeah I remember that, probably part of what turned me off it because I could never seem to get SMP to work. I did get the GPU client running for a while on my 8800GTX, but I think I stopped because of how much it affected the system; now that its just part of a media server (not actually playing anything), it should be good to go 24/7. Is there an easy way to calculate PPD using this, or do I have to use something like fahmon (if thats what its called) to monitor? Passkey is setup too, just had to look through email archives for it. Actually that was probably the hardest part about setting this up using this![]()

Ok got the thing running on the 8800gtx/x2 6000+ system, the 8800 seems to be topping out at 70c which is fine. Right now the estimated PPD by HFM.NET is 42k. ~14.7k per 460 (both oc'ed at 880/1760), i7 920 is 6k, x2 6000+ is 1.1k, and the 8800GTX is 5.3k which is the same as what I remember it doing. For some reason that GPU3 setting wont work on it, but a forum post says theres some problem with 8800's so for now that box is unchecked. Not sure how much it would help, but that doesnt seem too shabby does it?
-oneunit means it will complete one unit and then stop folding. You definitely don't want that. If you disabled it in the tracker program but it's still showing in the log, you'll need to restart your clients as well so the change will take effect.Ok I got a quick question, when looking at HFM.net it says -oneunit for both my clients, is this the default way it runs and then refreshes when a new unit is needed? Just curious that even though I have -oneunit disable in the FAH Tracker, it still says that it's running as -oneunit.
Out of curiosity, is your i7 920 overclocked? That does seem to be a bit low. I would figure that even if stock, a 920 should be getting 8000-9000 ppd average.

Yeah it is at 3.6ghz, how do you think I can fix it? Have SMP enabled with that -bigadv checkbox, should I not have it selected?
Hmmm.........
Just some basic questions, but do you have hyperthreading enabled in the bios? Also how are your temps? I monitor all of my computers with Core Temp which is an easy download. If you are overclocked to 3.6ghz and are running just a single GPU, it seems like you should be getting way more than 6000ppd. Out of curiosity, what are your TPF's on your current work unit? Basically a single frame is equal to 1% and should be visible in the log.
As for bigadv, it is really going to depend on whether your rig is a dedicated 24/7 folder or an almost 24/7 dedicated folder. If you will be using it to do a lot of other stuff, you should definately keep it on regular SMP stuff.
Yes HT is enabled. Temps hitting around 67C max while folding. I am running 2 GPU clients (sli 460's), so how much of a difference would that make? In HFM.NET the TPF column says 00:11:27. I guess I should disable bigadv then, because I definitely wont be folding on the cpu 24/7 (the gpu's however will be the majority of the day).
Oh yeah, in that case you will want to disable bigadv as you will probably not be able to meet deadlines.
Which work unit are you working on right now for the CPU client?
right now its p6701 (R0, C1, G63). I stopped and deleted the one I was working on (very easy through that menu in the program) because I assumed it was the -bigadv one. Right now its at 6442.6PPD
That explains part of it as those 6701 and 6702's will kill your production. They really suck in terms of points, but we love all our bastards no matter the production. I just re-read your original post and it looks like you have 2 GTX 460's folding in the background as well. Someone else will likely have to chime in because I have no experience with the GPU3 client at all. I know that folding1 is clocked at 3.46ghz and produces about 9-10k ppd on those 670x's. The other thing to keep in mind is that you will need to successfully fold at least 10 work units by the bonus deadline before you will start getting bonus points, and the HFM numbers you are showing are calculating a bonus.
It is possible that the two GPU clients are really eating up cpu cycles, but I cannot help you with that. Something you could try is run the SMP CPU client with the -SMP 7 flag. What this will do is force the SMP client to run using only 7 threads, which frees up a thread for your GPU clients. But again I have no experience so someone else will have to chime in. If you have IRC or whatever that is, you could hit up the chatroom for our folding team and see if someone live can give you live help.
As for bigadv, they are easy to recognize since the only bigadv workunits available right now are 2684, 2685, 2868, and 2692.
I tried that, and it looks like the 2 gpu clients are taking up ~80% of a single HT core by themselves (you can set the amount of threads to run in the program itself), would that be whats causing it?

The GPU clients still require some CPU cycles in order to run. I have no experience with the GPU3 client, but I understand the cpu utilization does appear to scale depending on the production of your Fermi video card. 80% of a single thread does not seem to be all that bad. However someone will definately need to chime in who is an expert with running dual GPU3 clients along with the SMP client. How many frames are you into your current 6701? It might speed up a bit after a few more frames.
On regular SMP, your SMP client running alone should be able to average between 10k ppd to about 17k ppd depending on which work unit you get. 670x's and 6040/41's will net you lower, while those smaller work units will net you higher points.
Your 460's seem to be very productive as last I heard, those are typical GTX 470 numbers.
It is recommended to leave one core free when running multiple gpu's. The tracker has an option to set the number of cores so just do that. For the settings to take place you will need to stop the client you are working on and then start it again
Right now its at 3% for the i7 920, and nice to hear about the 460's. Got them at a great price, but theyve been feeling a bit neglected because of an unexpected course load this semester, so its great being able to put them to use for something productive that wont screw me over
Ah good to know, done and done.
