I thought the trailer was boring.

What's the deal with cinematic trailers that don't represent the gameplay one bit? Almost as bad as live-action video game trailers.

It could be pretty misleading to people completely new to Starcraft what the game ACTUALLY is. Trailers should always show atleast some gameplay otherwise it's just a mostly worthless CGI artist showcase.

Though in this specific example for me it doesn't matter since I've played the beta, know what it is, and know what to expect.

You know, the gameplay videos are shown EVERYWHERE, you had the chance to play the beta as well. There's no need. This trailer was LEGENDARY.

You'd be pretty out of the loop if you didn't know what Starcraft gameplay was like or where to find some gameplay videos considering there are thousands of beta videos out there as well as gameplay videos from blizzard on their website.

That trailer was the definition of epic if you're a SC fan.

To hell with all of you bashing the CG, all hail Blizzard CG cut scenes! Leave gameplay footage in trailers to lesser, garbage games that need to sell people something. We need more massive high level CG in our games, its a dying art.

I expect nothing less coming from Blizzard, excuse me while I go change my pants.

I know right? Blizzard's animation team seriously need to make a feature length film. Would be AMAZING. I've always been a fan of their CG movies dating back to warcraft.

IMHO they make the best game cinematics out there, even better than Square's

I still have my Starcraft 1 cd key memorized, and can name drop old school like it's no tomorrow. I'm pretty confident in saying I'm probably one of the biggest Blizzard fans on this forum. I'm not going to sound like a hypocrit though and disagree simply because it's of a company I been following for 14 years. A trailer about a game should have interactive elements, not for me, but for people that don't know what it's about. If you can't understand why some people think there should be gameplay clips of a trailer trying to sell a game I don't know what to say. I actually always say this whenever I see a video game trailer without gameplay. Deus Ex: Human Revolution trailer in early June, just the principle of it.

By the way the trailer almost brought a tear to my eye. :D

I agree.

I agree. There is absolutely zero arguing the quality of the ads that Blizzard has been releasing. I couldn't possibly be happier that the game has a flashback to the most memorable and pivotal moment in Starcraft, so awesome.

That said, I think it is hilarious that a very very small number of people that buy the game will have no idea what they are getting into due to them not showing any gameplay in the ads. Some people (I'm talking a VERY tiny tiny number) might be expecting a Gears Of War or Modern Warfare type game or some similar bullshit, and instead they are thrown into an RTS. Hell, not even an RTS, a classic style RTS, a game genre that hasn't been in vogue for years.

Yup, very funny

Seriously. I don't know why the WoW movie is going to be live-action...I'd rather see it in CGI. There have been too many good games turned into bad movies. I just watched the Street Fighter movie with Van Damme last weekend...*shudders*

im gonna ask here because the comments are too fast in that video :

Around 0:50 what are those things flying above Kerrigan?
Scourge?

That's why there's a distinctive difference between "gameplay trailers" and "cinematic trailers." This is a cinematic trailer, by which the story is the main focus and not gameplay. And it's freaking awesome! Even the in-game cutscenes look freakin sweet.

EDIT: Lol, I've noticed a number of youtube comments say, "I'm disappointed in the cinematics, Blizzard usually does a better job," even though most of them are in-game. Most of the pre-rendered parts are scenes of Kerrigan, and parts of the original teaser trailer.

Small Muts, Oh, I am kind of missing Starcraft, I too have my original key in my noggin.

5 days... 5 days... O the wait is killing me... trailers like this do not help... I NEED IT NOW!!!

I've never played Star Craft and I've been looking for a good RTS for a while. My favorite RTS of all time is Red Alert 2 and RA2:YR. I played them both competitively for years. I miss that kind of fast paced game play where matches are normally decided in the first few minutes and rarely exceed 20 minutes. Build orders really mattered and even a single wasted unit in the early game could make or break you. RA3 was way too slow for me and didn't have nearly the same depth of strategy and balance that its predecessor did. I played it for a few weeks and dropped it.

I guess what I'm asking is will Star Craft 2 be a good fit for me?

It was announced about 3 years ago. Director Sam Raimi talked about it in a more recent interview and says there's still a lot of work to be done with the script. He apparently plays WoW himself and made it to the 70s, so hopefully he has a very accurate vision of the game world.

I'm by no means a pro player, but from what I've seen in the beta and watching endless replays... hell yes this is the game you are looking for.

Go check out HDStarcraft on Youtube and watch any number of matches.... it's so epic.

Square and Blizzard have always been neck and neck with cinematics. They both seem to surpass each other with each new game.

This trailer though is supremely badass. Showing Kerrigan's capture sent chills down my spine. I may just have to run through SC again before next week just for a good quick refresher.

Can't wait to see what Blizzard has cooked up for this story because right now it looks to be something incredible.

And that's exactly what the trailer is supposed to do, get you hooked into the story again. Not show gameplay like some people are saying.

Definitely sends chills down my spine, holy crap. I keep watching this trailer. Well done Blizzard, well done!! :D

Over the years I feel like the single player story of Starcraft took a back seat to the multiplayer scene. I'm glad to be reminded that its got more to it than gameplay.

I was half-expecting the trailer to be a trailer for a Starcraft movie, it was definitely set up like one. That would have been awesome.

So um ... just found out I'm getting a signed Collectors Edition for free tomorrow  Small chance it might not happen but it should be legit, just depends how many copies my buddy gets from his inside man.

Jealous!

If I want cinematics, I will go to the cinema.

Except Blizzard's cinematics are often far better than what's available on the cinema.

And they support amazing games. I've played the beta since February and I'm only ready for more. Gimme the game!

Yep, they follow the "gameplay first" philosophy without compromising high-level presentation. In the end, every bit of a game matters to me.

So when I saw this at my friend's house during Family Guy, I made orgasmic sounds and said HELL FUCKING YES. And guys and girls alike stared at me like I was on crack.

edit: holy fuck new trailer. I might explode.

This. Don't have time to replay to re-remind myself of the story though. :/ Only part of it that toubles me is why Kerrigan got captured. There are really only two options, she knew what she'd become or she would've offed herself. We all know what happened.

Well for one, she probably thought she was gonna die right then and there. Once captured, she called for Raynor and Duke telepathically to rescue her. But by the time they got there, it was too late.

i'm actually lookin forward to playing the campaign more than the multiplayer
can't wait!

I used to say basically the same thing when I'd watch porn. "If I want a story, I will go to the library." I finally learned though, sometimes it's nice to feel emotionally connected to a person lying face first in a pool of jizz; It can really pull at the heartstrings.

What I'm saying is, these scenes can add to the experience of playing a video game and I welcome them for that.

Geez, I'd like to know where you find your stuff!

But yeah, the greatest games in history have more than just gameplay to make them great. The cinematic trailer really makes me want to know what Raynor's up to now, and the whereabouts of the other denizens of the SC universe.
