First off, I love the game.
I have been searching for a complied list of tweaks and can't find any.
My rig can run the game flawlessly on static lighting, with all options maxed, but chugs on object and full dynamic.
There must be some undocumented tweaks too, for instance, set the number of dynamic lights etc; to be able to come up with a nice blend of of image quality using high textures and dynamic lighting.
Relavent Specs:
FX-55 @2.8
7900GT
2 Gig's DDR 400

I guess first and formost on my hit list is HDR, my card just can't do it. I dislike the way it looks anyway so I don't miss it. Anyone know where it can be disabled? Can't find the line in the User.itx.

This game is really touchy when it comes to performance.

I wasn't happy too happy with my performance with most everything set to medium/high with full dynamic lighting and 8xAF. It was alright most of the time, staying in the 30's and 40's which was pretty playable but during firefights it dropped into the 20's and low teens so I dropped back to object dynamic lighting and lowered all of my settings to medium only to end up with worse performance  ?

I don't know, right now it's doing alright at 1280x1024 with object dynamic lighting and most options at medium/high with 8xAF. It's a little jittery every now and then, with a few hiccups and framerate dives, but 95% of the time it's perfectly playable.

I'd love to hear some possible tweaks or drivers that might make better use of my cards.

hey not that it's a tweak for performance or anything, but your picture will look better at 1280x960, as opposed to 1280x1024. 1280x960 is a 4:3 resolution, which is what suits your monitor, while 1280x1024 is a 5:4 resolution, and meant for certain LCDs. If you run 1280x1024 it will make things look a bit stretched horizontally.

Anyone know of a "God Mode" command?

BTW bring down the console with ~ and type help for a list of all commands you can type in the game, there are a lot, use Page up and down to scroll through them, you can tweak a lot of things in the game.

BTW the Static Lights uses DX8, the two Dynamic Light options use DX9.

Yeah I know, but for some reason this CRT lists 1280x1024 as it's recommended resolution and when I try to run it in 1280x960 it looks all screwy.

The Oblivion "Maximum frames to render ahead" tweak works well for STALKER (for me it does, at least).

I am running the game on my laptop (specs in sign).
Render: Full Dynamic Lighting
Quality: Max
Res: 1920x1200

I get 20-25 FPS and during heavy gunfights it gets all the way down to 11 FPS.

Has anyone with a 8800gts been able to get AA working on Full Dynamic Rendering?

Make sure you have the 7.2 drivers. I had the 6.8 ones and the difference is huge in updating to 7.2.

Also i searched for a console fps command but there doesn't seem to be one besides rs_stats on/off. Just use fraps instead.

Does anyone know how to stop the scrolling in the console when you type help and get the whole list of commands?

Use page up/page down to move up the list.

Indeed. I had an old catalyst on there and performance with dynamic lighting was horrible. Upgraded to cat 7.2 and the performance is much faster.

Hey all can you guys please help me on what I should set my settings too, I get horrible performance on 1280x1024 Res with medium selected, full dynamic lighting, I am currently running 7.1 drivers

on XP by the way.

might just get a 8800GTS if I cant find good some good settings for my X850XT

Currently playing the game all max at 1280/960 but with grass and sun shadows disabled (and no crappy blur "AA"). Turning off sun shadows gives a great boost in performance.

Well, I can confirm GameSpot's stance on STALKER and Vista.. they don't mix very well. I get frequent CTDs when saving/loading games, not even just quicksave/quickload like GameSpot said in the review. The first thing I did was run it in WinXP compatibility mode and disabled themes and desktop compositions.. No help, I didn't even get 15 minutes into the game before finding this.. I'll be booting into XP to play.

Other than the CTD, performance is great on a 8800GTS. Of course, no AA enabled, but everything else is maxed. I'm hoping for similar performance in XP.

Had a good with the game last night, going to try out the side missions abit tonight.
anyway, max settings across the board and no filtering @ 1650X1080 25-45fps outdoors and 35-50 indoors.

I ran across a large military group that engaged a bunch of bandits at the second little friendly outpost and it really did not effect frame rate at all.

Also is anyone else having problems binding buttons on there mouse outher then the usual two and the wheel? or does the game not like my MX510?

There appears to be some sort of memory leak in stalker. Game performance for me, starts to slow down, after awhile, and FPS start to drop, but if I alt tab out, then alt tab back in, performance goes back to what it should be.

/shrug

Thanks Draax for posting that. I thought more tweaking was needed after last night when only 3 npcs were on screen and it turned into a slide show. This is after 4 hours of great game play in the 30s and 40s.

I also find that when I get drunk from anti-rad wine, and when I head into that fallout shelter, and when I exit it, I run into slowdowns, that require me to alt tab out and in to fix it.

I had trouble binding some keys on my Z-Board, I still cant get the guy to low-crouch???

I really like this game. Even though you cant hit shit with those pistolas, it somehow comes across as very realistic.

Tell me, after you bind the keys and press use, do you have to quit out to the menu to make them "stick"......or can you just go back to playing the game???? Maybe thats my problem.

I'll have to do more testing, but looks like the game is doing less AF if you use the in-game option, like 4X AF or 8X? max, setting 16X AF from the control panel looks a lot better anyway, which helps with texture quality.

As for the AA, I too cannot get it to work on 8800 GTX, no matter what, even with Static Lighting it seems that it may be doing something, but I can't tell what, maybe only 2X AA, or maybe just an edge blur with Static Lighting. With the two Dynamic Lighting options nothing. This game most likely uses Defered Lighting and therefore AA won't work with the two dynamic lighting options. With Static Lighting it may only be doing a basic edge blur like GRAW, again I'll have to do more testing later and figure it out.

That's what I got for now

Amd 64 3400
6800 ultra
1gb ram

Medium settings, with full HDR, the game runs smooth for the most part.

The best thing that helped make it smooth was going into the advanced tab and taking the textures to about half-way and such.

However for some odd reason, after running just a couple days fine and perfectly smooth, for some reason whenever I get near a barrel of fire (IE the ones that people sit around and such) the game has some noticeable stutter when I move...even if nothing is around the barrel , no people or anything...it wasn't doing this until today and I didn't change any settings.

I read some review that said that the low-crouch could only be used when pressing ctrl+shift at the same time, they were unable to re-bind it to any other keys.

By the way, has anyone bought this at walmart? Do they sell it there?

Wal mart should carry it fine...why wouldn't they? (If you mean because of the rating or something, Wal mart has carried M games for a long time now, from GTA to manhunt, etc).

There's a walmart on the way home from work, just wondering so I don't waste my time this afternoon, if not I can just go the best buy on the way as well. Thanks.

For what it's worth, I just installed last night but didn't have time to play.

Today I started my PC, then started STALKER up and started a new game, it got stuck at the loading screen displaying "Synchronizing Client."

After 3 reboots I was getting pretty tired, so I started it, exit to windows, and restarted Stalker. It then ran as if everything was perfect. I'll update here more with bugs etc.

Well of course running it at higher settings is going to cut performance down. If you want the best grpahics you better have hte best video card.

This is in the manual:

"Static Lighting" - uses DX8 rendering mode

"Objects Dynamic Lighting" - Uses DX9 mode with light maps

"Full Dynamic Lighting" - Uses DX9 mode with full dynamic lighting
