OK- this is a strange fault / failure (to me at least).
AMD-720 / Asus M4a785TD-EVO w/ 8Gb GsKill Ripjaws emmory
AMD 9650 @Gb video card, Corsair 500 PS
Nothing overclocked / MB and video drivers up to date
Ran stable for months, then I bought an X-Fi that died the first weekend with an audible ‘pop’
Since then, even with a fresh Win7-64 install my computer is strangely unstable
By strangely- I ran 4 hours of Win7 memory testing (all options) at boot- no errors
4 hours Furmark (16x10 w/ 4x MSAA)- no errors
4 hours Prime95 (three cores active)- no errors
2 more hours with both of the above at the same time- no errors
3DMark 11- complete loop, no sound (I think that’s normal, right?)- no errors
GPU folding with F@H overnight- three units complete, no errors
But, if I go to youtube or play any embedded video the vid stops after a couple of seconds, the mouse and screen freezes a second or two later, and then the system hard freezes a second later. No error noted on screen, and upon reboot there is nothing in any logs. Oh- Flash is also up to date (10.2.153.1). All I can think at this point is there is something wrong with the onboard sound or ‘southbridge’. Have I smoked to much crack, or am I missing something that stands out to any of you?
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, You're my only hope. :confused:

Flash is never a good indicator of system stability.

With that said,

If the above things are true, then the only items that are using sound is
Youtube. Reintall sound card drivers, or update them, see if there's any
issues afterwards
 
I know flash is nothing, it's just the most repeatable thing... All drivers are up to date with reinstall of Win7 (two days ago). I can't think of anything else other than something going/broken in the southbridge but I thought I would ask here before swapping the motherboard. I am a firm believer that there is almost always soneone that knows more than I do, even if it's very similar to what I do... I'm operating without any test equipment, and keep thinking that I should check the power supply for some reason. Thanks for the reply, I'll go doublecheck driver just to make sure I didn't do anything foolish like grab the wrong package from Asus... :)

There's no such thing as a AMD 9650 video card. Also which Corsair 500W PSU do you have?

Besides the flash issue, are there any other issues with the PC? Also, use Memtest86+ to test RAM, not Win7 Memory testing.

For now, make sure that your drivers are up to date. Right now my hunch is the video card.
 
Sorry- typo, you are correct, AMD6950 (anyone else have a hard time not calling it ATI?)
Power supply is a Corsair Builder Series™ CX500, about five months old. Video card is about a month, and has been given plenty of work (folding@home) for the last two weeks, but it passes everything I can throw at it. Drivers are all up to date from manufacturers' site, then updated through windows if needed (last Asus drivers were 2009). I really think it's not a flash issue, but something connected to sound- I have just put memtest86+ on a usb stick, and I'm going to try to play an MP3. If I don't edit this in the next few minuted, I crashed again and am running memtest. I'll also go dig up the drivers for the onboard video and try that w/o the 6950.
MP3's on the 'D' drive work fine, rebooting to run memtest...

Hmm, that PSU is a little underpowered for that video card.

Try adding a cheap-o sound card to see if that fixes your issue.
 
Crazy- ran memtest86 for a few loops, no errors, loaded the drivers for the 785 chipset's built in video cars and removed the AMD6950 (Ha- I can type it correctly!), problem has cleared, I'll add the soundblaster back into the system to double check, but I think that was it (And I will start looking for a larger power supply) I did not realise that I'm pushing about 450 watts, I somehow had not added in the draw from the HD's and x-Fi.
Thank you much Danny Bui, I was not thinking video card at all fro some reason...
