SSD intermittently recognised in BIOS

I just moved my system into a ITX case with a new motherboard and I'm having some problems with my SSD (an old Kingston V100 64gb) It worked flawlessly in my old system (Gigabyte Z68 motherboard) but in my new system it doesn't show up in the BIOS about 90% of the time and as a result I can't install Windows on it or boot off it.

It doesn't appear to be a problem with the cables or the SATA controller itself because I've temporarily replaced it with another hard drive, using the same SATA port and power connector, which is showing up just fine. However it doesn't appear to be a problem with the SSD itself either because I stuck it back in my old system and it's works fine in there.

Any ideas guys? Thanks!

I've tried all four ports that are available (motherboard is a Gigabyte Z87N model) and none seem to work any better.

There really isn't much to check that you haven't already. I would say maybe check AHCI and the SATA power connector. That's pretty much it.

After some more googling it looks like there are some issues with certain SATAII drives and the Z87 chipset. I guess that explains it!
