Just get whichever has the best bang for the buck and call it a day. They are both good :p

The Vertex's are a first warm welcoming to us because they are first to truly deliver consistently and for a great price. They are on par with each other in most specs, though the Intel random write speed stomps the others in ground. They both stomp regular HDD's in the ground. And a couple of either of those bad boys in raid will put a smile on anyone's face. ;)

Everything is price/performance related. If I7 extreme's were in the same bracket as 920's we'd all be getting those instead.

The price argument is valid for USA, but not for Europe.

Vertex 60GB: €260,41 (4,34€/GB)
Summit 60GB: €273,88 (4,56€/GB)
Kingston X25-M 80GB: €289,65-319,68 (3,62-3,99€/GB)
Vertex 120GB: €429,70 (3,58€/GB)
Summit 120GB: €463,38 (3,86€/GB)
Kingston X25-M 160GB: €598,09-624.14 (3,73-3,9€/GB)

The 60GB OCZ drives are simply overpriced compared to 80/160GB Intel drives or 120GB OCZ drives.

Just for info, in end i ordered a Corsair P256 for the desktop, it as €501 without VAT.

Very nice. Good all round performance (although random writes could be improved - only slightly better than raided VR's). And it's cheaper than the competition in terms of €/GB.

p.s. one review noted that you should avoid doing a full format, as it severely degrades performance, and run HDD Erase instead.
 
Ok, order of Corsair P256 is a fail. They are available only from 2 suppliers in whole country, one doesn't have them at all, second (my favorite) asked his suppliers and got info about 10 day delivery... Well, 10th day will be tomorow, and today he requested a update from his supplier (as P256 still wasn't in their stock)... Long story short - Corsair pushed delivery date by another 10-14 days :( . The question is what now... Wait for P256 and hope they will not push the delivery date again ? Or start thinking about something else ? I can't decide if i should cancel my order or not... There is a alternative of Patriot Torqx 256GB for something around 470-490€ without VAT (can't remember exactly), which is a Indilinx based drive (= read OCZ Vertex), but...

Edit: Or Patriot Torqx 128GB for 320€ without VAT.

Oh well, a final summary what are the possibilities :
  1. OCZ Vertex 250GB or Summit 250GB are out of question, they are 30% more expensive than Corsair P256 (the Summit counterpart) or Patriot Torqx 256GB (the Vertex counterpart)
  2. Corsair P256 and Patriot Torqx 256GB does have their prices (480-510€ range), but delivery dates are either unknown (Torqx) or they are moved, so we can call then unknown either (one retailer says next week, another one says 10-14 days, but not guaranteed - and i'm not sure 1st can guarantee it either)
  3. Patriot Torqx 128GB - 320€ without VAT, performance close to Vertex
  4. OCZ Vertex 120GB - 339€ without VAT
  5. OCZ Agility 120GB - 296€ without VAT, but performance is lower than Vertex

Choices, choices, choices...
