My asus p7p55d-deluxe mb only supports 3gb sata. With this limitation, is there a partuclar type/brand ssd I should be looking for? I dont know much about them but nearly everyone raves about their performance once they get one. Thanks!

Nothing but a decent brand because the interface doesn't matter. :)
 
exactly, don't buy a drive limited to the 3 Gbps speed because your current computer only supports that rate. Just buy the best drive you can for your budget, and if it happens to be a 6 Gbps drive, hopefully you will upgrade your controller one day to experience the speed increase.
