Spore release date announced!

about time. I'm not nearly excited as I was when I first saw the "working demo" videos months and months ago. I guess I'll wait to hold my breath until the game is actually in stores.

9/7? holy far away.. not going to worry about it since it's still over a half a year away.. i'm sure i'd get it though, looks like a fun time killer

Damn that's a long time away lol. I had forgotten about this game.

EA is banking on this being a huge moneymaker, and I tend to agree. Its the new "Sims". You know what that means. Frequent expansion packs, a multi-year spot in the Top Ten PC Sales list. Release on PC and eventually all the consoles, DS and mobile phones.

They are even making it into a damn social networking hub. Sporecasts, Sporebook, that kind of stuff for player-generated content. You make a creature, it uploads to spore central, others download it based on friendlists and the like. They can comment on them and you can read the feedback.

It will be a top seller of 2008 and probably 2009 as well. It looked pretty fun in Wright's demo. Certainly an ambitious game. Hopefully worth the wait.

That's kind of like a tease...

Anyways.. I've been waiting for this game for a while as it portrays life as it actually is (evolution), and you "evolve" your own creatures, which is really fuckin unique and cool in my opinion. Check out the videos on www.gametrailers.com (very good site) and you shall see what all the hype is about.

Sucks though, 7 more months.

Oh and to the SP only thing, yeah, it's more likely to get pirated because it won't have a "online/checked" CDKEY, making it much much easier to pirate with a CDKEY generator.

No Multiplayer in a PC means most people won't buy it because they can pirate it with barely no effort or risk of getting caught (because the CD key does not get checked). Most SP games have a CD key generator online so you can easily download that, then install the game which online piraters download online as well. <<<--- this is 100% fact, if you disagree you are W-R-O-N-G.

For the game devs:
SINGLE PLAYER ONLY PC GAME(even thought it might be REALLY good) = EASILY PIRATED = FAILURE = YOU LOSE $$$

MULTIPLAYER (make sure multiplayer DOES NOT SUCK in your game) = WIN = LOTS OF $$$

It's inevitable.. I bet someone is going to make a creature in the shape of a huge penis and before you know it, some 9 year old kid will have it automatically downloaded to his system and his world will be populated with penis monsters.

I can see Steve posting this in [H]s front page news already.. :D

Haha! You must teach a Logic/Critical Thinking course. "Color + bold + spelling out "WRONG" = irrefutable statement." ;)

Wow the red blinded me and then I could barely see the blue, very impressive strategy.

Honestly I think most of the people who pirate games wouldn't have bought them even if it were impossible to pirate the game. Either they are too cheap or have no money anyway.

Sad, but QFT. I have bought plenty of single player only games, but I know most of these games I could have easily pirated. Most single player games just don't have any replayability for me.:(

That said I have wasted hundreds of hours playing sim city games as well as colonization/civilization. Maybe Spore will have a similar draw to it.

I think Stardock would disagree with you there.

its the the iPod of videogames.

I'll admit it, I pirate games because most games these days are crap. Why would I pay $60 for a junk game. Games that are worth buying, get bought.
Stop putting out rehash games that the only difference is it says "08" instead of "07"
stop giving us crap ports
And we will buy games.
If they wanted to make money, they would stick to soccer mom games like bejewled.

Cool thanks, let me point out MULTIPLAYER

Every time a player starts a game in Spore they’re given a new planet. The planet is the same every time and serves as little more than a blank slate for the creatures to play on.

Except, it isn’t always the same and, although the landscape is always basically the same, the types of other animals and vegetation are actually sourced from other Spore players. Their content spills over into your game to keep things fun and perpetually new but, in order to accommodate to casual gamers and those who don’t actually want to play multiplayer, those players aren’t actually in control of their content.

It doesn't have a multiplayer, however it does rely on fetching other peoples creatures from an online database to populate world around you. This is why they're releasing the creature editor first, not only is it a good way to pull people into buying the game but also your creatures will be uploaded to their server and will give them a good creature base to start off with.

I expect the game will ship with a fair number of creatures already on the disc, but with an offline cracked copy you may find yourself only seeing a tiny amount of creatures in comparison to the large diverse selection you would have with a legitimate copy. When you reach the space stage and you can visit thousands of planets this will probably become a problem.

So no one has anything to say about the penis shaped creatures?

If I make it, what keeps other players from unknowingly streaming my penis monster into their game? :D

streaming my penis

I would imagine they must have a "report offensive content" button. And maybe a rating system. Otherwise they are in for some creative obscenity in creatures, objects, buildings, vehicles...pretty much anything.

It's just a pink mushroom shaped creature.:D

They'll probably put the same warning by the rating as multiplayer games have, "Game Experience May Change During Online Play."

Only thing I'm worried about is that this is going to be an EA game, which i usually don't care for as much, but being that Maxis is officially gone, guess this is the only method of a Will Wright game being made.
