Speakers..

I am looking to get some speakers for my new build. I don't want anything that is very expensive. I just want some speakers that sound good and do the sound in games justice. I will be hooking them up to my motherboard (ASUS PQ5-E).

Does anyone have any suggestions? What brand? How much is a decent set worth?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Need more info:

Budget
Configuration (2.0, 2.1, 5.1, etc.)
Available space

There are tons of recommendations, pics, reviews, etc. in the Computer Audio forum below.

I like to keep the budget to about 70-80 bucks. Space is not an issue, but I don't want speakers that have to have their own shelf. Either 2.1s or 5.1s. I prefer the 5.1s though

good luck finding ok 5.1 on that budget. I'd say 2.1 is up your alley. sadly though I haven't seen any good options for 2.1 period as of late. about 5 years ago there was a lot to choose from now things are rather slim

The only 5.1 remotely close to your budget is a Dayton Audio system for $159: http://www.daytonaudio.com/audio/finished_home.html

The Swan S3W might be an option if space is very limited: http://www.theaudioinsider.com/product_info.php/p/swan-s3w/products_id/79

The Swan M10 is very highly regarded and can be had for less than $100. It may have been discontinued so finding one could be tough.

None, but if you made me choose, then the G51's @ $90... too bad thats AFTER MIR. I don't like Logitech speakers... their sound is a bit off on their high end (Z-5500)... I can't tell whats wrong with them. On the lower end models, they're a bit muffled, so their fine if you only pay $20 for 2.1's or $30 for 5.1's... but those regular prices on them are much more than they're worth, IMO. If you're an audiophile, you'll hate logitech. If you don't care too much, then you'll think you got a good deal on them. :p

I don't know why I keep buying Logitech... but I'm guessing its because they get so cheap (my z340's were $15AR, my z540's were $20AR, my z640's were free from a friend who got them for $40AR, and my Z-5500's were $145AR). I'd much rather have some Klipsch or Swans.

lets just say that the price is not a problem. What speakers would you recommend then? Good for gaming and listening to music. The brand that I keep seeing is kliswitch or something like that. How good of a brand are they?

Klipsch? Their computer speakers are junk that are only good for volume. They have a large following but so do many things that suck.

Their high-end speakers (not computer junk) are supposedly good and I have heard them but not in an environment to accurately compare them to speakers I know and like, so I will reserve critical judgement.

Out of all the ones you picked I would say logitech. Although if I where you I would invest more in my speaker system .

honestly I would consider something like the monitor/sub combo that is suggested some where here. I actually bought the monitors (Behringer MS40) for a buddy of mine for his B-day and he got the sub suggested and he's rather pleased with the outcome.

your rough end price is about 200. but it's money well spent. no need to buy crap now only to spend more on something slightly better later
