If only this were true, imagine…a world without spam. It may not be world peace but it would be damn close.

Google won't disclose numbers, but the company says that spam attempts, as a percentage of e-mail that's transmitted through its Gmail system, have waned over the last year. That could indicate that some spammers have gotten discouraged and have stopped trying to get through Google’s spam filters.

HAH! now, only if google realized they're not a corporate email server (in a sense they are, but not)

at my work, our exchange server sees about 10% of all incoming emails as legitimate, our filter software catches the rest.

Yahoo vs Google. Google wins hands down. My inbox with Yahoo is flooded with spam. I don't think i've received a single piece of spam since I went to gmail.

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
And the end of Spam...

sorry could not resist...

you can say that again. Our Exchange Server is protected by TrendMicro spam filter which catches approximately 140 spams per hour.

Does a damn good job of it too.

Do spammers honestly believe "Hey, maybe if I sound out this ridiculous email with how people can buy some V!#@GRAAA or tell people how they can add 75 super hyper mega inches to their dong, someone will actually but my products!!"

Is anyone dumb enough even more to buy shit from a spam email? I dont even see the point anymore.

Umm... I'll bet a large sum of money that they see more spam that you could possibly imagine.

I have 2 different e-mail accounts, each with different filters, and I haven't really notices a problem. I don't have access to the numbers though.

Is anyone dumb enough any more to buy shit from a spam email? I dont even see the point anymore.

Couldnt edit my post, so I fixed the spelling mistakes in a quote

This is exactly what I am wondering. What is the point of spam anymore. How does one make money on it?

Complete retards that give their email address out all over the fucking internet then actually buy shit through it or at least "click through" which generates some money for spammers. Money to spammers equals continued spamming.

I get almost no spam, but frequently a fake paypal one does slip through the filter. I can definitely see people falling for those ones.

Fake Ebay ones for me. Usually a "please supply us with your password so we can repair your account" or some such.

What, do I have "stupid" written on my forehead or something?

I've seen a few of these articles lately, so I decided to check into my own company's spam stats. We host a few million email accounts and get a steady flow of spam. Although spam dropped off for a while over the summer, it's back up to normal levels.

Also, the spread between % of email that is legit -vs- spam has not declined by any meaningful level.

This is true people. I was getting over 1000 spam messages a month as of 12 months ago. I'm down to getting 300 spam messages in that same month now.

Well it's true for me at least...

I've noticed a severe drop off in spam over the last 6 months even on my own personal accounts. I feel as though spam might be dropping across the board. For me personally it's gone from about 150 a week to 30. Quite an improvement :)

I've never had a problem with spam (and I have Hotmail, which proves that your choice of email address matters more than your choice of domain).

The advertising spam probably doesn't make money anymore, which is why many spammers have converted to phishing. With that strategy, one dumb person equals a profit of thousands of dollars. And when you send a message to thousands of people, you're bound to find one dumb person.

Oh, and another example of my first point: I have an address made up of my initials and parts of my name at the domain "cgs.k12.va.us" and it gets more spam than my hotmail account.

I get a few of those every now and then and ya they are pretty good. They dead give away for them those is the link to thje paypal site actually points to an IP adress. I report it to paypal when I get one on the odd chance that it might do some good.

Obviously it works, or they wouldnt keep doing it.............

I get about 1000 spam a week in my yahoo acount and about 50 a month in my gmail account...

Gmail's spam filters suck. I regularly get emails in my inbox with the unobfuscated word "Viagra" in the subject line. Emails from the legitimate Worcester, MA Freecycle mailing list end up in the spam folder no matter how many times I mark them as "not spam".

Heh.

I have the catch-all account for a domain forwarded to a Gmail account, so it's a given that it's going to get a lot of spam, but Gmail doesn't do nearly as good at filtering it out as spamassassin or Thunderbird's built-in filter do.

For me, gmail catches everything, and by everything, I mean literally, it maybe lets a few spam mails a year actually reach my Inbox. That is with some 270 spam mails I get a month.

ive only ever given my gmail account out to one person and I regularly get chinese spam on gmail.

yahoo is terrible for the total amount of spam, but it does catch 90% of it. it also has a tendency to mark as spam stuff that isn't even close...
