I don't know why there hasn't been any new games like this, it's such a great game that with modern tech could be even more amazing
 
Starlight Inception released their first trailer a few hours ago.

Star Citizen looks to take the crown with far better production, but Starlight Inception hopefully can hold its own.
 
Strike Suite Zero is pretty sweet. You can find it on steam. Its no X wing or TIE fighter.. but it was a blast to play!
 
I love space sim games, but it's hard to find one with modern graphics that is really polished. They're usually made by indies that do it for the love of the genre, which is nice.
