Southern Islands Possibly September

I wouldn't hold your breath. I am a big AMD fan but releasing products in a timely fashion (Llano, Bulldozer, etc.) is an unusual event.

AMD CPU is, more or less, different in every sense vs AMD GPU. On the other hand, it seems like Llano came into stock yesterday, after a semi hard launch with just HP and one other laptop vendor.

That would be great but I don't see it really happening. Seems like TSMC is having issues with 28nm from most of the latest industry news. Taping out a chip and achieving acceptable yields from the wafers out of the oven are 2 very different things. Seems like both Nvidia and AMD's GPU's have taped out but the 28nm process itself at the fab needs to be refined. Realistically I'd expect both chips either early Q1 or end of Q4 at the absolute earliest.

IF AMD does get it out by September that would be a good time as several key games will be coming out around that time.

Once we get closer I will be selling the 6970 I have now "prior" to the release of the SI videocards.

If this is true and Nvidia has nothing to offer total repeat of the 5800 series.

i still maintain that it won't come out till at the earliest.. xmas... i'm still convinced that TSMC will let both ati/nvidia down...

their cpus have seen a lot of delays, but their gpus as of lately have been on time for the most part.

i think it is up to tsmc more then it is up to amd (same goes for nvidia).

I'm pretty sure that Southern Islands will be in September, even with TSMC having its usual shit. I mean Southern Islands taped out in like May. That's plenty of time. Kepler I can't see till q1 2012 because it just taped out.

Well for now I will be happy with my Quad Crossfire 6990 +70+70 setup. In fact it will probably last me another 2 years easy and easily support the massive dual socket 2011 mega machine I will build when the server segment is released later this year early next.

If southern islands is twice the perofrmance as the cayman chips I can then totally see selling my current rig.

Yeah AMD has the lead atm over Nvidia, wouldn't be surprised if they do pop out in Sep/Oct. Playing around with 6950 in CF and managed to get consistent grey screen crashes. Tried it on another PSU same wattage rating 750w and not a problem.

No one likes a bragger!

No im just an idiot for wasting so much money!
:D:D:D:D:D

And let me correct my above statement. I am not Quad Crossfire right now. Because I cant be. I do not have the lanes even with a NF200 chip on my mobo. I do have quad GPUs though and once I go socket 2011/AM3+ and that depends on the performance of dozer, I will be using all 3 of the cards.
