Sony getting arrogant?

its so funny how you all bash the PS3 so badly but it will outsell xbox360 and wii internationally.

The Wii is certainly gaining momentum in this next console war, I sell cars and people at work even know about the wii :) My wife wants one too :) And my brother and friends of ours will have something we can play **together** when they come over, the ps2 only has 2 controller ports :p (Gamecube was stolen)

Oh, and Everyone at work knows that the PS3 is very expensive, they were thinking numbers were like 799 :p

Not to mention the DS light that is due out soon :)

I will put money on that the wii will outsell the PS3 in 5 years.
:) People in Japan and all around the world don't neccissarily wan't to pay $600 just for a console, and 55$ or so for a game when theres another console out there that is much cheaper and offers something very unique. The retarded PS3 version doesn't coun't, why would you make the PS3's with and without HDMI? You can never make the crippled one as good as the more expensive one.

its kinda strange but that will probably help them sell consoles because if everyone expects they are going to be like 800$ and they end up being 499$ they will sound like its a bargain than if everyone expected them to launch at $499

I probably wont be buying any of the next gen consoles until they reach a bargain price, i have a ps2 and xbox now but i bought them both more than a year after launch.

The problem? Final Fantasy XIII and MGS4 aren't even close to completion. They'll both be out in 2007, and probably late 2007 at that.

That's very true, and don't forget that Halo 3 could likely beat those titles to the market as well.

500 for a crippled POS. Or 300 if you talk about the 360

I still don't know why microsoft came out with those core systems. The whole 2 system idea is freakin TERRIBLE. Why not just launch one model so everyone has the same functionality. Maybe sell the console right in the middle at 350 and 550 respectively for the 360 and ps3.

In my opinion, it's a waste of production. If i'm spending 500$ on a video game system, whats the 100 extra dollars going to hurt? Save up a few more days and youll have that money for the better version. Selling a crippled product isn't a great marketing strategy in my eyes.

I'm buying a video game system, not a car. I don't want to add the extra options later.

I have to agree, but I understand why they chose the 2 sku strategy. When little Johnny's grandma walks into the local Best Buy to buy little Johnny his next gen console along with a copy of Grand Theft Auto 9, she's gonna see that there are two prices for the console. Since she doesn't know better, and being the frugal person she is, she'll pick up the cheaper one and force little Johnny to buy all the extra accessories. At least you have that option with the X360, while you can't just add a HDMI port on the PS3.

Most people are going to buy the $500 version as the majority of the populace doesn't have HDTV's, nor do they have one single clue as to what HDMI is.

Also, money won't be an object to Johnny's grandma. When it comes to spoiling kids, grandmas are second to none.

But with the PS3 you get all of the gameplay functionality with the cheaper version. With the 360 little johnny is going to have to shell out $40 for a memory card to save games, negating almost half of the price diff for way less storage space.

Good points, but don't you still think sony would have been better off making all of the same system?

The way im looking at it is, those HDMI ports people might not use, but it would be cheaper in the long run to mass produce them and the 60 gig HD rather than the ones 20 gigs and all..Because obviously the more of something you produce the cheaper the parts are. Sony isn't making a profit either way, especially with the blu ray drive. That's eating up a lot of there costs right there so they should have went with just one system.

They will obviously both roll off the shelves like the 360, but eh. Like i said video game systems really shouldn't have options. The ps3 might do it better, but just look at the 360. In my eyes it's the companies telling consumers to almost F themselves so they can make some money on you getting that bigger harddrive, or wireless controller it didnt come with.

At least the wii will only have one version i hope.

If it were me buying either the ps3 or 360 i'd have to get the better version, just because it seems more of a value. But still with 360 games that require a HD or live requiring one and MS not including it reallllly screws the consumer.

I havn't run into a single X360 game that requires an HD. The only game I can think of that does require one is Final Fantasy 11. I think having a cheaper $300 version has helped Microsoft increase sales by giving you a choice. I just still can't believe Sony would ship versions of the PS3 without an HDMI port, especially when they've been trying to define what they call true high definition.

Nullo, I hate to say it, but youa re on your way to becoming the StevieP of the Playstation Camp. I used to agree with a lot of your middle of the line posts, but anymore you've delved into the territory of that dreaded F-word.

Any pre-excitement for the PS3 I had was removed after the hearing the price at E3, and the launch titles. The few that have been announced hold no interest to me, and all the killer stuff isn't slated for launch. I'll also re-echo the sentiments about Sony's arrogance and marketing BS as turning me off on their system as well.

As in all my posts: I'll buy a PS3 whenever the games I want show up, but honestly how excited can you guys be about the launch lineup? I know it isn't completely finalized, but what is there seems like a big whopping "meh" in my opinoin, so far. Theres still a lot of time, so we'll see how it all shakes out.

Honestly I'll probably be so busy playing FF12 on my PS2, that I won't care whats on PS3.

Who cares how many sell, do you? Own stock in Sony and hoping for an upswing? I dont' think anyone is disputing sales ability on the side of the PS3 and Sony, this thread is about the way Sony has carried them selves as a company lately.

They've carried themselves in a very low manner in most peoples opinions, and if you don't feel somewhat slighted by their actions, or at least mislead, then you aren't paying attention.

The saddest thing about the statement at the beginning of the article, where the quote about "People would buy one even if there weren't any games available at launch..." is that it's probably true. I hate blind brand loyalty. In this case, it's totally unwarranted.

ALL of it? No HDMI = no bluray disc video playing :p . The "cheaper" $499 version doesn't have it, while the $599 "ubar-leet-I-have-a-money-tree-man!" version does.

So $500 for a Premium 360 is just wicked alright, whereas $600 is obscenely expensive?

(For the record I think both systems are a waste of money right now, the PS3 much moreso)

Since when does the premium 360 cost $500? MSRP is $400. If you're talking about what some were selling it for at launch, your comparison is invalid. I'm sure plenty of idiots will pay well over $600 for the PS3 too.

Dude, can you help me pick some lottery numbers? I mean, clearly you are able see into the future, that's awesome!

In all seriousness, with the price Sony has set, and the strong prospects of the Wii, and the strength of the Xbox360 and Xbox Live, and the fact that Sony is still more than 6 months away from selling their first PS3, don't you think you are being a bit premature in calling a winner of the next-gen console war?

Even industry "experts" spout this crap all the time. Lets take a quick look at recent history:

Ps2 launches in japan and then USA with only the Dreamcast as competition. Don't get me wrong i love the dreamcast (I have 3, got one at launch) but it never had good developer support from the beggining, so it was never really a contender. PS2 had dvd playback , which was already a accepted movie format , and happened to be one of the cheaper dvd players at the time. When they launched the ps2, they launched it for 299$ , which is right around the average price for game system launches. Ps2 is unchallenged by other next gen consoles for a whole year, enabling great sell through. Ps2 is the only place (for a year) to play the runaway hit Grand Theft Auto 3, which may have had everything to do with its success.

Today Sony faces stiff competition from the xbox 360 (well, everywhere but in japan) , and the 360 has full developer support, from all the heavy hitters except Squaresoft. They are using the ps3 to push a new and most likely unwanted HD movie format, which can only be utilized by less than 25% of homes. The price of the system (whether or not you think its worth it) is 500$ (tardpack) which is well above what most consumers are willing to pay.

The only paralell I see is that neither the ps3 or the ps2 had any standout great launch titles, but that didn't stop people from getting one.

Does anybody know what the record (in system generations) is for console domination by a company?
