Go to some mom and pop car repair shop and see if the wheel balance machine or some other shop tool isn't running Win 95.
Some shops use a Commodore 64.
I do remember those in some places but I've not seen a Commie 64 (just a joke, I was a Tandy/RS Color Computer fan, fanboy stuff from the 80s) for a long time.

Wow. Surprised it wasn't an Apple IIe vs. C64 debate in the 80's. Those Tandy fanboys back then were rare. And really weird. Like really odd fellows.![]()
HEY! I resemble that remark!Wow. Surprised it wasn't an Apple IIe vs. C64 debate in the 80's. Those Tandy fanboys back then were rare. And really weird. Like really odd fellows.![]()
Apple II's were for leets back then, way out of my price range.![]()
i did. never had the issues most did. lucky i guess....
I still have a PC that runs with Win2kPro on it but it is not currently hooked up.
Did anybody here actually run Windows ME?
I did, and had no more issues than I did with Win98SE. I think it depended on your hardware if it would play nice or not. I never bought ME, a friend gave me a copy so used it.
I never had issues with ME and shocker vista either. I always had mostly update PC so it cause less issue then the shit box store PC most people bought then.Did anybody here actually run Windows ME?

Ah, remember the days before activation!
Activation never changed anything, really.

I had issues with Vista, it used to just thrash the shit out of the hard drive constantly....

Constant swapping due to insufficient RAM?![]()

I ran ME, I never had an issue with it that I didn't have under 98SE.
As far as OS's go I think people's memories of how good Windows 98 really was has faded a little. When it came to the Win 9x era that 6 monthly reinstall from scratch was literally a necessity.
Long live AmigaOS 3.1!!
Nope, unless of course, you bought a computer with only 512 MB of ram.![]()
I think Zarathustra meant that people often complained about the HDD trashing in Windows Vista precisely for the reason you mentioned - too little RAM.
I had a few Vista laptops at work, Toshibas. Oddly enough, the batteries were okay for around 40 minutes to an hour even after almost 10 years.
Anyway, with 1 Gig of RAM it was unusable. Mind you this was with the vendor's bloatware removed. When I added the second Gig, it was perfectly fine. But, nevertheless, 7 felt easier on the HDD whenever I upgraded Vistas to 7s.
One thing I really hated in Vista, my main complaint really, were the default settings for Windows Explorer. There was something 'off'. I remember it liked to revert to a certain (small) window size, defaulted to libraries AFAIK.
Vista was really pretty though.
Honestly, I still think that most of the thrashing complaints, at least the ones here and on other tech boards, were because of the prefetch itself. Of course, I had 4GB of ram right from 2008 so there is that.![]()
