Okay, I just ran 3dmark06 and my final score just came out to be

15112

I know not the greatest, but comparing to some others for exmaple the pc i used is in SIG. I've been tweaking my 8800ultra.

725 core clock (regularly 612)
1630 shader clock
1250 mem clock (regular 1080)

Amazing overclock to me anyways. The point is the next person I compared to system had an i7 build. with a GTX 295 and his score was 16900.(common system score) So obviously going to be better, but to me thats not far off.

I think the thing that hurts me compared to the newer cards with 1 gig memory when mine sits at 768mb and 500-600mhz of more core clock. I was thinking the newer cards would have blown my 8800 ultra to the crapper.

Overall the thing where I lack is FPS value, where a person with a HD4890 scores 50-100 more FPS then I do in 3dmark06. myAVG. fps was 50 at lowest to 75 fps highest.

So my final thought, Would it still be worth upgrading? or hold onto my personal overclocked 8800ultra?

I've been debating on it for the past few weeks. Should I wait for the enxt price drop?

Thanks for reading,

I went from a nicely overclockable 8800GTX to my current sig card. Nice improvement but not night and day. However, the new card costing a little over 300 bucks instead of thee absurd card prices of yesterday (remember the 500-600 days?? ) made it worth it. In the end it's up to you. Buy now and enjoy or wait and pay more later and then enjoy.

Well I think its a great improvement over stock settings. and yes the 8800ultra cost $700 2 years ago lol. Top of the line at that time, honestly would never buy "the best" due to this reason.

Well we will see when I start playing more games on PC. If I notice a huge drag in performance I'll up the anty on a new card.

I am currently trying to sell my RIG, due to an upgrade. (FS threads)

But I still think Its a huge accomplishment on the overclocks ;) And yes I've been debating on the 280 and the 4890 still today. But funds are tight. hense why im trying to sell some stuff

I'm still using my Leadtek 8800 GTX that i spent $530 on, from newegg almost 2 years ago :| (October 3rd, 2007)

Given how much I spent on the card, I'm forcing myself to wait until the GT300 is available

I can't say I'm disappointed with how well this card has performed with pretty much every game I've installed since I purchased it

I'm the exact same way. Sure I would love to be able to max out my latest games, but it's hard for me to part with it after spending so much on it. I'm waiting on the new revisions myself and I'll make a judgment call from there.

Thats right inline with what I would have scored on my 9800gtx+ single card build if I had a dual core. I was hitting 17K's on 3dmark 06 only cause of the cpu score being on a quad core and 06 being 4 core threaded. Good score!!! you would be suprised if you push your cpu higher and rewarding shooting down low clocked i7 rigs :) HAPPY 4th by the way!!!!!!

1250 mem clock? How?

Also since you got nearly a 25% overclock on your Ultra you'll probably need to get an HD 4890 OC or GTX 285 to feel the difference.

Well its also watercooled so that controls the temps. I kept pushing it by small increments. and then stress tested.
Im more suprised getting my core clock from 612 all the way to 725 lol.

mem clock is 1080 default and suprisingly got it to 1250. Im tried 1280 but it crashes.

Im happy with the overclock values. and with everyone else on board its hard when back in july 07 this card was worth so much haha.

ill hold on as long as i can

Sounds like you have a golden ultra over there :) For some reason most 8800 Ultra can only do 1150 (2300 actual) on the memory. The chips themselves are rated for 0.8ns (2500Mhz) but for "power saving" reasons the voltage was cut so they could only run at 2300. Actually I'm posting from my backup card, 8800 Ultra right now. Great card, testing it out again on vista x64 ultimate. 702 core on air wish me luck

I'm using an 8800GTX/e6600 @ 3.2 and I really haven't seen much reason to upgrade yet. I was also one of the people who paid over $500 for one of these cars years ago, but the money is still money well spent seeing as I can still play the newest games at very high settings.

I don't think that upgrading to something like a GTX 285 would really make that much of a difference at this point, so I think I'm just going to wait until the GT300 is released, and do a completely new build, rather than just upgrading now, seeing as there's hardly any need.

im running a GTX with 1ns mem that'll go to 1161 before throwing artifacts. at the time viperjohn reported it was his "all time high" clocking GTX ram :D:p OP, you own it so hard though heheh. max stable clocks of mine are 684/1782/1152...i know not the greatest core result, but IMO who cares?! this card is a complete beast. laughed at HL2 ep2, dark messiah, then bioshock, UT3. SF4 bench reports a score of OVER NINE THOUSAND (lol, but no seriously, like a little above 9100 i believe) and all @ 19x12 on my HP 2335. awesome :)

considering it continues to chew up everything i throw at it with admirable stubbornness, and also that it loads at like 51°C, okay MAYBE 52° (ya, rly).. and that im still severely CPU-bound...its going to take a LOT to get me to switch personally. so OP, why not hold onto that nice card you have for a bit longer and watch prices drop a bit as well?

hearing all this makes me happy to have my 8800gtx... helps me not want to upgrade at the moment.

I get over 15k with stock clocks on my 8800ultra, this was with an I7 920 @ 3.6ghz.

I've never actually tried to overclock my ultra, it's pretty damn good at everything i throw at it (1680 x 1050 res). I have upgraded to a 4890 but that died so am back on the ultra while i wait for a replacement.

Also i just love digital vibrance :) , i know ati has their hue/saturation tweaks which are similar but just not the same.

yeah same here as well. except i bought mine sued for $105 :)

I'm actually going to wait for the card to die until i upgrade (unless that takes 2 years, then i'll just replace it).

I currently run at 625/1500/1000. Kind of a lame OC, but I can't get the core to go any higher :/

I dont get it...are you supposed to keep the core clock and shader clock linked for maximum stability?

When I kept my shader at 1620 I could not go past 674 core but no I just linked them both and been gaming at 702/1728/1152 for the past hour in COD:WAW. Seems pretty stable so far.

What gives...I thought that core was only suppoed to be 1/2 of shaders maximum...yet I seem to achieve better overclock when I drive the shaders up to 1728

Not that I am complaining...thats a nice oc for an 8800 Ultra

im going to try upping my clock some. I will admit, ive actually been playing crysis lately, not just as a benchmark tool.....

I found crysis very playable with high/very high settings @ 1680 x 1050 no aa, at least in the beggining - never played to the ice with my 8800ultra.

I got it for $60 nz so like $30 u.s. give or take a lil bit, chucked it in the oven and got a cheap backup card that actually performs very well.

The 8800 series were fantastic cards...I had the 8800GTS640 at first release...couldn't quite justify the Ultra then.

I couldn't justify the 295 I have now either but BFG step-up made it possible =P

I had to get a new mobo a few weeks ago (fried my old AM2 in a cup of water knocked over accident!). Popped for a new X4 955 on an AM3 board. Here are my stock clocks in 3dMark06 with the two setups and my trusty, 2 1/2 year old 8800 GTX:

Athlon X2 6400+ = 11,400
Phenom II X4 955 = 14,100

I did improve it further with an OC to 621 Mhz (vs. 576 stock) and it hit 14,700. Been playing a lot of Fallout 3 and LotRO lately and I see only a slight improvement using a stock GTX 260 (216) I was foolish enough to waste money on. The original 8800 GTX and 8800 Ultra were awesome cards and while expensive at the time, good investments over the long haul.

i had two 8800gts 320's before switching to the GTX. most of my stuff didnt support SLI and it never seemed to really improve my fps. i gave up, sold them for half what i paid, and bought a refurbed GTX. never been happier.
