Some overclocking logic, true or false?

If someone can overclock to a certain level with stock voltages, would that also imply he could overclock to the same value with stock cooling and stock voltages?
 
No.
There would be little point in using performance heatsinks if they didnt work.

The only time it is true is if the performance of the stock heatsink is the same or close to the heatsink that was used in the first place.
(The above assumes all other variables remain constant)

Well there are too many variables at this point but the short answer maybe. It really all depends on the overclock, just because you haven't touched the VCore doesn't mean temps won't go up so my advice is just try it. If temps are fine with stock cooler then just go for it.

Yes. That's why it's called "stock" (voltages).

Now if your board is automatically varying the voltage depending on the overclock, and you call that "stock" then that's a different story.

Point taken. There are more variables to take into account so maybe not quite as clear cut.

Although there is a correlation between voltage and speed. And a (mildly) overclocked but "undervolted" CPU can run cooler than a CPU running at stock. (in which case stock cooling will work fine)
 
So is there a verdict, because I'm considering switching out my WC system for an Intel stock fan since my E4400 runs @ 3.2Ghz stock voltages (1.272V via CPU-Z) and as of now is 15hrs Orthos stable.
 
It depends how good your water cooler is.
You must have found a performance difference and must have known they cool better than a stock cooler??

Its pretty obvious you arent going to be able to run the CPU with the same overclock and the same volts, I dont understand why you created the thread?
 
I've found a cooling performance difference. But I haven't tested overclockability of a stock cooler vs watercooling at the same voltages.
 
Its possible you can use the same voltage to get the same overclock but that is unlikely unless you didnt get anywhere near the max overclock on the water cooled setup.
