My home box died. Eh, it was old anyway. x4blck. I'm not exactly rolling in money and I specced out a basic machine that I think will do fine performance wise for me.

I do game, but I'm no longer in the more more more more gotta have more! category.

Is the 8320 decent?

games I've played in the past 6 months.... minecraft, about 4 games of payday2 about that many supreme commander2. I do more CS6 stuff than anything else since I got fairly heavy into photography. Occasionally I will do some video work from a go-pro.

1080p @60hz from a projector. I'm looking at pairing it with a gtx 760. Am I being goofy?
 
Unless you do a lot of video work I'd tend more towards a 6350, you will have a lot less het to deal with than you would from the 8 core. I have a 6350 that I tried on a M5A99FX Pro R2 board from Asus, with a CM V-8 cooler which isn't a great cooler by any means and had a decent 4.6 clock form it.
The FX line are hot and thirsty chips so don't cheap out on the board or cooling and if you do decide to go with the 8core you'll want a board with a 8phase power system.

I'm sure. The 6870 has been rock steady and pretty much done everything I've wanted of it for years now.

This will be my first Nvidia card since my old Ti 200.
 
I have looked at those boards and know of a few Asrock users that are doing well but none that have the EXT4 it looks to have lots of power.
I have wanted to try one out been waiting for a sale or open box to come up. I currently have too many CPU's and not enough boards, been looking for a reasonably priced 8 phase FX mobo and that might be it. Just avoid the MSI's they have issues and a lot of the Giga boards are having throttling problems you have to get the right rev. of them
 
since you mention your cs6 work I would definitely go 8320

that is what I use and when I am doing photo editing, all 8 cores are loaded and it works great.. plus it doesnt cost that much more than the 6350

honestly, that is the only place I notice the upgrade from my Phen 2 965 overclocked to my 8320 (which is currently at stock clock speed)
 
Thanks. I wasn't unhappy with my olde x4 setup... it just got unhappy with me. :p

I just don't want to wind up with something akin to edward scissorhands becoming a gynecologist.
 
The 8320 should work fine on the board you chose. I was just tring to save you a few bucks. You will need decent cooling if you want to push the 8 core at all. They are hot.
 
Yeah. The 6300 or 6350 would be easier to cool and OC as well. Can't go wrong either way, though.
 
I use lightroom 5 and the 6300 has no problems with big mp raw files.
Be wary of some benchmarks with PS though I don't use 150 layers and 20 filters thus many benches are pretty much useless!

Either 6300 (forget 6350) or 8320 they're unlocked all the FX processors so why waste money on more that's my take.

Depends what you are doing though photo wise but most modern stuff does quite well
 
Are you buying a new complete system or just upgrading CPU. If your a heavy photo-processer/video processing individual then middle ground is any FX 6 series. 8 Series is the more and more type person, but if the price difference is affordable then FX 8 all day.
 
Yeah the 8320 is routinely on sale for $145 so it would be worth getting. Its never a bad idea to buy the most horsepower you can and the 8320 is going to be better. Even if you dont think youll be using it now, there might be a chance when it could come in handy in the future. Id opt for one when they drop on sale. Theyre $160 now but shouldnt be more than a week or two before they drop back down to $145.
 
That asus board looks solid with the rebate. Good find! Just avoid the msi boards if you overclock, their vrm's like to explode since they don't handle a lot of extra power than am3+ spec.
