I'm heading off to Stanford in the fall...last April I built a mobile XP 2400+ system...only problem is its in the Antec 1080AMG. I am NOT lugging 50 pounds to college...so I'd like to go SFF. What can I build that will let me keep my current overclock (12x200 with pc2700)? I wouldn't mind buying new ram at all. I'd like to transfer my hdd, dvd burner, chip, and 9800pro to the new case. I guess PCI-E is the future, but this could be a minimum investment for now. What's the most reliable best OCing socket A SFF that will support the mobile chips?

The Shuttle MN31N can do everything you need, but you would need to do a simple pin mod to set the multiplier at 12. The pin mod is described here - it's simple (no soldering, cutting, etc), and should not void your warranty.

If it was the LAST sff case for Socket A then it would it would be a relatively simple process of finding the last case ever released. This doesn't guarantee that it would fit my needs.

I'm looking for the penultimate sff PC...not the last produced but a late model capable of fitting my needs. Anything beside the LAST sff case could be considered the next to last because LAST is such a limiting term.

Which dpt at stanford? If your computing needs may become taller than socket A, might as well upgrade now.

Something involving Engineering and Biology. Perhaps Biomechanical Engineering... Freshman year I probably wont be doing much computing and money's tight right now. I was looking at Cooler Master's Cavalier desktop cases...I could fit all my existing stuff in there and stash the computer itself on or under my desk. Any thoughts/comments? I know its not a small case but its a helluva lot lighter than most midtowers and a world apart from my antec SOHO case.

Agreed. Since you only need 1 PCI slot, a Shuttle would be a nice, tight way to go. Also, the Socket A and Pentium 4 models can be found at good prices if you buy used.
