I am looking to upgrade my CPU, I notice there are socket 940 CPU's but I cant find a 940 mobo... am I missing something?

socket 940 is going to be server boards. if you shop newegg you should find a few different boards in the server section of their mobos. i wouldnt reccomend them tho for the average user.

OK well what would be a good CPU for an asus A8N5X mobo, right now I have an AMD 3500+, what would be a good upgrade in your opinion?
thanks

**EDIT**
I am trying to upgrade the machine in my sig, you got any ideas?

well I was thinking about an FX-??, but I am getting the impression that that would not be a good idea...

FX series is overkill. What you have now is a s939 CPU, so I'd probably upgrade it with some form of dual core. 3800+ is the low end, or get something like a 4200+ if you don't OC. FX-60 is the highest you can go, but for $1000, I'd save your money and just OC a lower end one.

Thanks, that is the info that I was looking for. Will a dual core CPU work well with my motherboard?

Absoultely, Dual core processors will work well with that motherboard you have and I think that motherboard is dual core ready.. I'm not sure.. I don't own that motherboard but I've researched this motherboard before..

I'd check your bios date first to make sure the one on there supports dual core, but it will work as long as the bios works with dual core.
