I am not sure what to make of this other than to be able to point and laugh when this venture fails miserably (you can bookmark this and laugh at me in a few years when it becomes bigger than Myspace). The founder of Soccer.net is starting a new website dedicated to combining social networking and the eradication of Malaria.

Malaria is mainly a third world disease. And by mainly, I mean completely, oustide of the infrequent outbreak in a mostly third world country.

Thats the whole point. Had you read the article you would have seen that this "social networking site" is fundraising site to raise money for 3rd world contries that still have a large number of malaria cases every year.

??? Did you read page 2 of the article?

The site encourages people to donate $10 or more to help support seven different research projects in Tanzania, such as developing plants like lemongrass to repel mosquitoes. But Hadfield sees MalariaEngage.org as more than a fundraising tool.

"MalariaEngage.org increases the return on investment of donors by connecting them directly with researchers working on malaria prevention treatment," said Hadfield.

The site is up and live right now. Go to it and you will see that it list the various areas of research and lets you choice which one you would like to donate too.

I have to wonder based on Tim's orginal new posting if he seen there was a page two of the article.

This site is NOT meant to replace facebook or myspace or anything like that. It is a site where people that care about trying to stop a disease that is a problem in 3rd world countries to come together and talk with people working on battling the disease and others that want to help donate money.

Bashing this site is about the same as bashing Penny-Arcade's child's play site as it has stupid ass letters from some sick little kids that nobody cares about going on and on about shit nobody cares about. :rolleyes:
