So Intel has Quad Core, what about AMD?

I posted dates, asked the Question; Where's 4 X 4 and the thread was deleted out of the AMD side of the forum. Intel has Kentsfield and it was said right from the start that AMD would launch 4 X 4 to counter it. I even saw where Poncho Got banned, I don't plan to do that. I'll not go to the AMD side of the forum where lies are accepted as fact LOL!

Kentsfield is on sale and there isn't even a review of the vaunted 4 x 4? Again, the thread was deleted from the AMD side of the forum for being infamatory. I posted the dates given by the Inquirer and others hehehehehe!

So it reviewed and for sale, where's its competition.

You should redirect your passion to something more fun like NASCAR, a NFL Football Team, or even Pro Wrestling. These are just CPU's, just a product that some huge company produces and markets.

So you are wasting your time creating a post just to somehow shove it in the face of AMD for not having 4x4 ready?

...some life you have  .

AMD is preparing a quad core product more similar to what Intel's next revision of quad core should be, four cores on a single die. As stated in quite a few of the reviews I had read this is not as simple as linking two quad cores through the front side bus. Expect the AMD and Intel quad cores which are comparable to each other (four cores on one die) to be released around the same time (most likely first half of next year). I know this is the age of instant gratification but patience is a virtue.

Also I'm no AMD !!!!!! for the record, I'm writing this on my dearly beloved Pentium 4 3.4.

I bet AMD has a press release apologizing for not having the 4x4 ready and saying how ashamed they are and it was because they were drunk with Mel Gibson that it didn't get done on time.

I used to think that you and Poncho were Intel !!!!!!s...I was wrong. You two are just some smucks that need to get out more and get a life. Maybe get laid once a month while your at it to or something.

In me mean time Im going to sit here at work and come up with a clever name for people like you and poncho.

Well , AMD has nothing until summer 07.What's new?

Move along please.

AMD has nothing. The same nothing they are doomed to have until K8L (which will be too little, too late). Back to following the leader for AMD...

I don't know man, folks talking about those topics are just as crazy;)

Yup, some life you have worrying about what I post LOL! There is a way to avoid wasting your time replying to me, but that is too easy uh?

Thanks for your reply and it didn't look like you posted it as any kind of F@n. Quad core CPU is simply that, Quad Cores on one package. Quad Core system can be Two Xeons or Opterons, doesn't matter. Be it native or not, who cares as long it works and Intel's seems to work. It's not Hot like Prescott or Or adds 17% higher latency like when Intel went from Northwood to Prescott. I remember tons of posts where folks hid Bashing as concern for Intel LOL!

Again I had just asked a simple Question, where's AMD's answer that they bragged about?
If that's sticking in their face, hey, so be it. They should have their asses reamed just as anyone who pulls crap like this. That goes for Intel as well.

So so you take everything aimed at AMD so personal? BTW, too bad you can't ask the wife what happen last night. Yes, I'm married LOL! As we say in the South, "It takes one to know one!";)

For the record;

I got into it with Poncho over Intel pulling back the 8000 series Processors and re-naming the E6800 the X6800. IMHO, it was a Sleazy move on Intel's part. They have Xeons on 1333MHz FSB so I doubt that was the problem as he'd said. I trashed Intel so needless to say he didn't like my post.

Intel and AMD have taken turn being Champs and Chumps! They should be Patted on the back or Slapping silly accordingly!

It has not been released yet. I sincerely doubt that AMD "bragged" about their 4x4 solution any more than any company "brags" about their product. After all, many decisions are based on marketing and perception rather than reason. Surely, nobody will expect AMD to tell the world that "4x4 will be the most mediocre product we have ever launched"!

Am I disappointed that 4x4 isn't out yet? Surely, but I am not going to shed a tear.

Simple kind of reply I was looking for, no bashing needed.

Yah, that Poncho guy was the shiznit. He acted like he designed the Core CPU...kept refering to it as "our processor" and stuff. He must have been an engineer at intel or at least the Intel Glee Club leader.

He works as a tester for Intel.

Either that or duby229 doing the same;)

Wow... I take back what I said. That guy sounds like a tool. Good thing he's gone. ;)

ok slightly OT but I didn't really see why Poncho should have been banned. He started the thread with a reasonable debate and it did degenerate a little, but not bad. I've seen much worse MANY times. Especially in the videocard forums!!!

I can't wait to see how AMD's 4x4 does vs. Kentsfield. But it will probably be too little (niche market) too late. It should bring AMD closer to Intel's current lead with Core2, but only b/c once you get to quadcore the processors start to get starved for bandwidth. As you can see from AMD's move from 939/ddr to AM2/ddr2, the extra bandwidth for dual core practically did nothing.

And by the time, AMD has its quad core available for more mainstream, Intel will have its "native" quad core, with 1 VERY LARGE shared cache between all 4 cores (instead of 2 caches x 4mb per pair of cores) That large shared cache will probably almost completely offset any penalty for not having an IMC, just like the large 4mb cache of the Core 2 hides the penalty for a NB memory controller.

You got that right!

Also, according to heise.de, only the Ultimate Edition of Windows Vista is capable of making use of two processors (while all versions can take advantage of Intel's single-socket quad-core CPU.) However, at least the enthusiast software segment appears to be accelerating the adoption of multi-core processor systems: Valve, developer of the Half-Life game series, that multi-core ready Half-Life versions will launch in the first half of next year and offer a dramatic acceleration of frame rates and physics simulation.

Something many of us tried to explain to Duby229

http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/11/03/amd_65nm_roadmap_update/

The Windsor FX CPUs will continue to use a 2 MB L2 cache package and will be rated at a thermal design power (TDP) of 125 watts, which - at least theoretically - puts a 4x4 platform at roughly 250 watts, or about twice the maximum power of Intel's Kentsfield (desktop) and Clovertown (workstation/server) quad-core processors. The currently shipping FX-62 and FX-60 will not support 4x4 and will be phased out by the end of this year.

Ouch. Not only do you need an overpriced motherboard and two overpriced processors, you need a $400 OS?!? Wow. This is a bigtime blow to AMD.

Yes, remember the thread about Native Quad Core?

http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1030155034&postcount=63

What I said about 4 X 4 and Licenses?
Proof.

http://multicore.amd.com/en/Technol...twareLicensing/
AMD is providing industry-thought leadership by recommending software developers license their software by socket and schedule threads by available cores.

This recommendation mirrors the software-licensing model that the industry has established for simultaneous multi-threaded (SMT) processors and will allow existing x86 software to run on multi-core processors without having to make changes.

Microsoft has announced its decision to follow AMD's recommendations. Microsoft server software, which is currently licensed by the number of processors in the server, will continue to be licensed in that model for server hardware that contains dual-core and multi-core processors. Microsoft operating systems and applications will install and run on multi-core systems just as they do on current single-core systems.

AMD applauds Microsoft's decision to license server software by processor, not by core.

Source AMD

Though AMD loves to embellish their part, it was the whole Industry who asked for this, sheesh!

Now that's what Intel did, put Two Native Dual Core Processors on one Package/Socket so Microsoft licenses it accordingly. 4 X 4 falls under the same umbrella as any other Opteron systems with two sockets=P No matter if 8 cores or processors sits on One package, it's counted as one. Quad Father is a poor name for that system.

Because I busted you for being on the exact same Intel IP as Poncho. Wait, I must've forgotten to do the dropdown menu to change your status to banned before I hit save after I changed your sig to reflect that you were a returning ban and then you edited it out.

Bye-bye for real this time! :)

As I mentioned in the AMD subforum, the Heise news post is far from certain about ultimate being the only Vista OS that supports 2P. Their wording is that "apparently" the non-ultimate versions of vista do not support more than one socket. There are other sources that suggest that all, but the Home basic and below versions of Vista support 2P.

InorganicMatter said:

While you may be dead-set on Vista, if the 2P-requires-ultimate rumor is indeed true, WinXP Pro can be purchased for ~$120 or less as OEM version, which will run 2P systems without any problem and supports quite a variety of games, applications and other hardware.

Well, not to interrupt all the lame comments by actually posting a reply to the OP, but uhhh.....:

I read somewhere many months ago, long before the C2D came out, that Intel was making a the core duo and everyone was trying to compare them to the x2 processors from AMD. Intel's did much better in many of the tests. However, at around the same time, I was reading that the C2D wouldn't be great for long because AMD would be releasing a x4 processor soon after the C2D. It really seems like Intel beat them to the punch on this one. I was actually holding out, waiting for the x4s...now I have to wait longer for some reviews and comparisons between Intel's Quad and the X4s...

BTW: I don't know if they are being called "X4" or not...but I am ;)

I cant wait until amd crushes intel back into the hole they just recently dug themselves out of.

Dont be to cocky about amd being alittle behind on the 4x4's. If they need alittle more time to make a better product, By almeans's take all the time you wish.
