Venturing back into the watercooling scene...back when DD was the shit.

Looks like EK is taking quite a bit of heat within these past few months. Crappy nickel plating on the blocks and cheap acrylic cracking on their reservoirs.

Other than that, are their other products free of problems? Looking to pickup their COPPER cpu and gpu blocks. Should I steer clear from them or are those products still good?

Thanks!

used thier acryl cpu block for years, no issue.
upgraded to the dark one and no issue there either.

so shouldnt be any problems normally.
nickel one had issues now I dont know.

I Like XSPC stuff. Looks good, works good... and affordable. EK reminds of of DC from Skateboarding back in the Day. LoL.

If you're OK with supporting a company that blames its customers for its own failures multiple times over multiple years and extorts its resellers for the same failures, then, sure, buy EK products.

This.

And there are better CPU blocks for less coin, and there is some choice usually on GPU blocks. Take your money elsewhere.

The EK plating fiasco was really poor form on their part. Want the whole skinny? Go over th realredraider and check it out.:D

The issue actually struck deeper, to the extent that Sidewinder has dropped their products altogether.

Me, I use Heatkiller and would strongly recommend their CPU and GPU blocks.

As for acrylic, I don't think anybody is immune.....I just had my trusty XSPC mcp355 pumptop-res get a crack and leak all over the place....:eek:

Not only their ongoing plating issues/defects (other people have had issues with poor machine work on pure copper blocks too) but now EK only have horrid looking boring bubble wrap looking blocks too...

:(

Now now, there's no need to insult bubble-wrap.

Thanks all.

I know their new design is crap, but their old Supreme block tested slightly better than the Raystorm which came up a close second. Universal GPU block wise, it looked like EK had the whole playing field to themselves with their #6 jetplate in both temps and flow rate...well based on the benchmarks that I read.

Yeah EK CS is shitty, I've read all about how they asked Sidewinder for $10k worth of damage for returning the EN blocks. But hell, I'm spending close to $1k in my custom loop, I want the best performing none the less.

If you want the best performing, EK is not it in CPU blocks. The new Raystorm and DT waterblocks beat EK greatly in restriction. Their Supremev1 didn't come close to Raystorm BTW:

*There's less data out there about GPU blocks, but I'd go elsewhere for those too.

There's a newer chart floating around somewhere...I'll find it once I get back from an orientation.

That graph is from March 2012 amigo. I'd be surprised if there's anything out there newer showing lower restriction blocks.

Sadly with Martin retiring from the WC reviewing game and Skinee being out forever we'll be without reliable data for a long while.

If you want to base your purchasing decisions purely on performance, then that's your call. Personally, I also consider CS/rep of the manufacturer, aesthetics, quality, and all-around value. EK does not fill the #1 spot in any of these categories, IMO. Besides, even if EK does have the #1 performing part, we're talking fractions of a degree. Just not worth it, again IMO.

I'll step down from the soap box. You can make your own decisions. ;)

The review done for the EK block was a few days newer.

None the less, I'm going to need to decide on what I want to do before the PPC promo expires today. =/

I've been seeing a bunch of people complaining about EKs milling recently. On copper and EN blocks. I just wouldn't bother with them anymore. HK makes far better looking blocks, and they perform quite well too.

Well you all were successful in persuading me to avoid EK blocks. I still went with a EK reservoir since I couldn't find any other ones that I liked other than the IandH..which is no longer in production.

Total price was a bit less than $900 including a Lamptron FC5V2. PPC had a 8% off promo ending today and they agreed to PM the AP-15 fans to another site..so I will receive a refund of the difference later!

Thanks again.

Here's what I ended up ordering:

What about the Bitspower reservoirs? Those look like the IandH and EK. Very solid too.

If EK turned you off because of their lack of ethics/manners you won't want to know what kind of rep PPCs has...

ya, i've learned through my recent first water build that ppc isn't all that great :-/

Haha, I was thinking the same thing, but I let it go... Too much work; it's Friday, FFS. :p

What is funny is out of the 10 orders with ppcs, I had one problem of them shipping the wrong item and they had it all corrected in 3 days. I tried out one of Rtechs premier sites that they brag about. It took me 2 weeks to get my item and when I recieved it, it was not correct. From start to finish it was almost a month to have the correct item in hand.

I was looking at the Bitspower reservoirs but I didn't like their anti-cyclone bit since it looks very restrictive.

Whats wrong with PPC? I placed my order and e-mail the rep back, he instantly refunded the difference of the pricematched items (10x AP-15), and they shipped it out in less than 3 hours. So all good by me so far.
