SMP client, reliability issues?

I find that my SMP client from time to time just stops working on a unit while in the middle.

There's no indication that it stopped working in the command line interface, but I notice its no longer doing work because my CPU temps become what they are when I'm idle.
 
It does stop sometimes ( once or twice a month) but a reboot fixes it. It is still Beta after all
 
Mine does that too......what also annoys me is that if I overclock my Q6600 past 2.8..it will produce errors like mad.....
I guess its a stability issue, but I can run for weeks on end at 3.6 with no problems in any other program or game..... its just the SMP client that craps out....

Install a 40mm fan on the north bridge if you do not have one. I have found the Q6600 (with a good cooler) will easly get to 3.3ghz if the northbridge is cooled. This is because of the large amounts of data that needs to be transfered between the cores cache and it has to go through the FSB because the two cores are not connected in the chip.
 
So is this a stability issue on my side? Or is it just an issue with the SMP beta.
 
Excessive overclocking always produced errors for me, not pauses.

My SMP clients only do this pausing when the network connection is interrupted. SMP requires an active network connection to communicate between the threads.

The network communication causes me the most grief since my office is all wireless. Loss of network connection is the only error I've had that did not come up with a message (command line) of some sort.
 
Hmmm, the network connection issue might make sense too because for some reason my downloads for larger files like podcasts seem to keep failing as well.
 
I've been having troubles with the Linux SMP client just stopping in the middle of a WU lately. This was before the v6 client came out and both clients would do it. In my case, it might do it once a day and other times I could go a couple days without any trouble. I just reinstalled the OS last night and I'm going to see if that fixed it (not the reason for the reinstall). I've lost a lot of folding time because of this.

In my case, I know it's not a loss of network connection as I have two IRC clients running on two different computers and they don't show any indication that I had any internet interruptions.

I probably had this happen to me maybe once or twice before this rash of incidents started and that could have been explained by a network outage.

 
So for everyone else the SMP client doesn't show any indication that it stopped working?

Well I have an AIM client that I keep running on the folding machine, but it doesn't show any signs. But the connection could easily be flaking and not affecting it if the losses are only momentary.
 
on a core 2 duo i have it is quite unreliable, it stopped 2 times in a row, and i can not ever get it to run as a service (mpiexec just uses 20% of cpu and fahcores never start) not to mention getting the dreaded 2610 a few times.
its working ok ATM.

on the quad, it works very well even as a service

if you use Fahmon it will show you if there is a problem because when work is not being done it changes color, and says "hung"

Nope it sits there likes its crunching away. Only way to tell is check your time - gmt time and see if its current or check the task manager for 100% cpu load. Ive lost more than a couple days of work by not paying attention to it when my wireless internet gets hosed
