Is there a way to determine your hard drive's status in Solaris 11 11/11? I can't seem to find a way to get the readings off SMART in Solaris 11. Specifically, I'm interested in drive temperature. I just had a drive fail out of a pool, and I'd like to know if it's temperature related or not.

Are you running napp-it? If so, it will display disk temp, etc. If not, you should be able to compile and install the smartctl stuff from source.

I'm running OI151a5 with napp-it/smartctl, and it works with SAS and SATA drives just fine.

You try:

smartctl -T permissive -a -d sat /dev/rdsk/XXXXXXXXX

Worked for me on open solaris/solaris with LSI controllers. Did not work with marvel controllers in the sun Xfire 4500 thumpers though.

I have to admit I'm running all 6 disks (two sata for rpool and 4 sas in a 2x2 data pool) of an m1015.

smartctl -a -d sat,12 /dev/rdsk/xxxxxx
for an onboard intel controller under OpenIndiana 151x.

I was quite surprised myself, but on OI it was as straightforward as described here.

Well, gcc-dev certainly simplified things. Now if I could only figure out where the blazes the "make install" sent the binary...

edit: /usr/local/sbin.

Ran the command that zrav recommended... Not seeing drive temp. Am I missing something?
Code:
root@solaris:/# smartctl -a -d sat,12 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d0
