SMART Data Issues

Hey Everyone! I was wondering if there was a way to reset the SMART HDD data. I just bought two of the WD Black 4TB drives, and they were running fine until for some reason the Intel RST driver messed up and windows was not reading the drives correctly. it showed them having 1677.90 GB in Windows, the bios started giving me SMART errors and windows was complaining for me to replace the drive. I read that someone re installed the intel RST driver and it started working correctly again. I recovered the partitions, they read the correct size again and windows has stopped telling me to replace the drives, but the SMART data still shows that the drive is bad. I would rather if the drives fine to not have a big red SMART issue in a utility when the drive really isn't bad. Is it possible to set this or do you think I still need to replace the drive?

Thanks for the help!

A driver issue can normally not cause SMART values to get into the warning state. Please post a screenshot of CrystalDiskInfo of the drive with all SMART attributes visible to allow further investigation. However, most parameters that go into the warning/pre-fail state are permanent.

You have 2 sectors that the drive remapped with sectors from its spare pool of sectors because it detected a problem. This probably is not a real problem. I would monitor this value and make sure it does not grow each day, week..

So is it possible for the smart stats to be bad and then go back to fine? The intel raid bios isn't saying that it has a smart error anymore and windows is no longer warning me to replace the drive?

Both were probably complaining about 2 current pending sectors. These would get reset when the bad sectors were either overwritten or remapped by the drive because it could read them when it tried to recover in the background.

Did you do a full format on the drive when you received it?

You cannot reset the reallocated sector count. If that is the only value with a warning, you can do nothing about it. Two reallocated sectors are nothing to cry about, but it is al little bit disappointing for a new drive.
