Smallest lan pc build?

Hello,
I just built a ultra micro fly, with 8800gts, quad core, ect ect

However, I seriously need the smallest thing I can get. The ultra fly was even kinda too big for me. I need something like asus eee small.

To get much smaller, you'd have to go Shuttle which unfortuantly wont allow you to use your mobo, and psu.
 
eeebox? You're running into integrated video and mini itx territory now. Silverstone SG01 perhaps? Or the Lian Li V350. Can't think of much else smaller that will fit your parts. If you want slim though there are options if you can get hold of the low profile/slim 9600GT. Other than that... noop.
 
what about running items such as laptop hd, laptop cd rom, and I can run a smaller video card if necessary. Only main issue is powersupply and overclocking I think?

Are you planning on reusing your motherboard and PSU or not? If not, go with a Shuttle. They're about as small as you can go with a gaming rig without having to go and fabricate something yourself.
 
Absolutely zero chance if you are looking for eeebox dimensions. Those things are specifically made with no room for overhauls. I'm not sure if you know how tiny the thing is:

Add: a matx board alone is about the size of TWO eeeboxes. If you want a rig that can play games you are stuck with the limited matx/mitx case choices out there.

Closest you can get to tiny I think. 250w psu might be cutting it; a reviewer said he was running on a 300w hp slimline.
 
Amazingly, im with low on this one, what your asking for, isn't possible without some sacrifices.

About the only way to get the best of both worlds is get gaming laptop, but then your gonna be spending major bucks and can't use ANYTHING from your current setup

Though your suspicion about the PSU is right, not because of the low wattage, but because of the quality. Simply put: the Allied PSU that comes with that case is a piece of shit. I frankly wouldn't even trust that PSU with a mini-itx Atom setup let alone a gaming setup.

Well granted, the ones that come outa shuttles are good quality, but of course they have to be, you have no other options.

Well, no argument there. Shuttle PSUs are good. But the small PSUs that comes in other small cases have very questionable quality..

Just throwing out all the possibilities. How much smaller is the Shuttle vs the Sugos and v350? I think I saw a couple at a ncix retail store.. didn't seem that much smaller than a Lanbox; and the expandability is worth the extra room. *Shrugs*, some people just want things as unobtrusive as possible - I'd like that too, but this is still 2008 and not some Ghost in the Shell era.

Depends on which Shuttle you're asking about:
Shuttle SD30G2: 11.8" x 7.9" x 7.3"
Shuttle Prima XPC SX48P2-Deluxe: 12.8" x 8.7" x 8.3"
SUGO SG02W: 10.6" x 8.4" x 15.5"
LIAN LI PC-V350B: 14.7" x 10.9" x 10.3"

I think it's WxHxD. Yeah you're right: people do want their PC as small as possible.

Dell studio hybrid is about as small as you can get. But face the facts, you cannot have have your equipment in something like this running the same hardware as a Alienware 51 desktop.

Only has a PCI slot. So pretty much worthless for gaming.

EDIT:

Ok, your want got me curious as well. There are two mini-itx motherboards out there with PCI-E x16 slots:
MSI IM-Q35 Intel mini-ITX motherboard. - $230
J&W Minix 780G-SP128M AMD 780G mini-ITX motherboard. - $180

However, do note that the AMD mobo's PCI-Ex16 slot only operates at x4 speed. So that'll roughly cost you 10% to 15% in performance IIRC. Gotta dig up that article again to confirm my memory. Anyway, if you want the full speed offered by your video card, get the Intel mobo.

Then get this case (Similar to lowteckh's recommended case but with free shipping :D):

Apex MI-100 mini-ITX case - $55

Then mod the case like best [486] did for better CPU and GPU cooling (I recommend mesh on both sides):
Yay! MI-100 mod!

Then get this significantly better PSU if you don't want a dead gaming PC on your hands:
SeaSonic ECO 300 300W SFX12V (v.3.1) PSU - $50

Then add a laptop CD Drive, 2.5" hard drive and the 9600GT or 8800GT since the Apex case can fit a full sized but single slot card. Those are the highest cards that I can recommend with that case and that PSU. Add a low power dual-core CPU like the E2180, E5200, or E7200 if going with Intel or X2 4850E if going AMD. Do all that (and if you don't cheap or cut corners ANYWHERE), you'll have one of the smallest LAN gaming PCs out there.

But note the dimensions of that Apex case:
8.7"x 5.1"x 11.8" (W) x (H) x (D)

Compare those dimensions with the dimensions of the Shuttles I listed a few posts above. Also compare the costs: The Shuttle SD30G I listed above costs $190 and comes with a quality PSU, motherboard and case that will require no modding at all for decent cooling. The above DIY setup that I listed will cost you $335 for a quality PSU, motherboard, and case that will require some modding in order to get decent cooling. And that $335 setup is only a few inches shorter than the Shuttle.

So think about that. Is all that time, effort, and money for the smallest LAN PC possible really worth it in the end?
 
why not a Vinster m@x? i have just started my business KillerRigs.com and we specialize in them. They are very durable 2mm thick aluminum which is powder coated. I am actually able to stand on it without it budging. Check out some of these pics.

Don't want to trash your new business, esp an original comp builder but damn, those are some freaking high prices.

e8400 + vista + 9600gt + 2gb + 500gb for $1122!? and no non-led option..

add: just saw that you can buy the case separately.

I saw this thing and thought it was just some scaled down non-working computer at a retail store but there were cables running out of it. I think it was about just 2x larger than an eeebox which is freakin' tiny. The option of setting it sideways or top/bottom is note worthy too.

I know i havent updated my prices in a while since i have been busy with being a full time student, and working full time. if anyone is interested i could update them and talk to you more about it.

PCI-e x16, Core2Duo, 2GB RAM - should be enough for a LAN box ;)

I remember seeing a project log on Bit-Tech.net where someone was using an older Commell board with the 945 chipset, but that was a long time ago.

If you use a flexible PCI-e riser you can lay the video card parallel to the mobo and stick a full height video card in a slim case with some modding.
