Amazing what can happen over a weekend :D

Friday we went with close and dear friends of ours to the first sonogram of their second child. Well we found out together they are having TWINS. We are happy for them. Later that evening, the topic of kids came up again as we do not currently have kids.

My quest for an SR2 may have been put on indefinite hold. My wife has indicated there are now two priorities ahead of any upgrades I am looking at
- Baby: my wife and I will be starting fertility stuff at the end of the month and this costs a ton of money
- House: my wife has determined that she hates our neighborhood. We went to visit some friends Saturday (baby shower, as if I didn't need yet another hint) and she immediately fell in love with their home and their gargantuan lot size. I already called the builder agent and we're going to see her this week. I see lots of money going towards the new house. We are in a rental property because we didn't know if we were going to be moving and I didn't want to buy if we were going to turn around and move. At least with a new house, I can properly get one room configured for my office with multiple 20amp circuits and boat loads of network outlets to all of the rooms.

With that said, I need to start saving a boat load of money and quick. Don't know when the baby will happen, but need to be fiscally prepared. The house has a definitive calendar. Our lease ends at the end of November and if we go under contract by the end of the month or mid next month, the house will be finished around the November time frame. I have a housing fund already set up, but the cost of the home my wife is looking at makes my fund look a tad small for the job.

I am still looking to downgrade to SMP2 and Big Adv only. I've promised Kendrak one of the GX2's and the other two are spoken for. I will likely be shutting them down this week as I will be working from home for the week. This will serve a dual purpose. Reduce heat and electrical costs. The reduction in electrical costs comes from two things. Obviously the reduced electrical from not running the GX2's, but also from the reduced AC from the reduced heat.

If I continue to stay as busy as I have been over the last several months, I think I'll be able to come up with the remainder of the down payment for the house, pay for the fertility treatments, and still have a little left over for a small upgrade at the end of the year. Will it be an SR2? I would love that, but at this point need to be realistic.

I am NOT going away, but will need to reduce my overall production for a bit. Removing the GX2's will take me down ~30K PpD. I'll still be around 70 to 80K PpD.

Congratulations on getting to a new step in your life, and best of luck to you and the wife.

I hope the a baby comes soon.

As a new father I can't tell you how proud/happy I am of my little girl.

Fold on brother!

Congrats and don't fret bro, real life > f@h especially in regards of family and kids. :) Do what you can when you can, no one will think different of you for it. ;) Gotta keep your heart + soul happy before donating a piece of each to everyone else (other than your wife and family of course, they get dibs :D).

Your still putting out 70k lol, I think youll be fine :)

Good luck on the baby, they can be the greatest thing ever (unless it's an accident, then the "greatness" sets in after all the freaking out subsides lol)

Both are huge steps in life, but *very* rewarding steps as well. The only thing better than the feeling of buying a new home is the birth of your children, and that feeling is something that simply cannot be accurately described. I'll never forget the day that either of my kids were born.

Watch out though - they grow up entirely too fast, and sometimes seem to suck the life (and energy) right out of you! :D My youngest just turned 5 years old in April - Here is the before and after shots:

EDIT: Oh, and BTW Capreppy - I can totally relate to the "Real Life" aspect of things. Seems that you and I were just sharing a thread about that a few weeks ago. Does this mean the pressure is off for the time being? It's been a real PITA trying to hold you off... :D Just kidding too, I think it's great that you and the Mrs. are headed in this direction. you'll both love the end results! ;)

People always tell you this but it's ridiculous how fast things happen.

My daughter turned 5 in December and we had to sign her up for kindergarten last month. Crikes! #2 is on the way, due date Oct. 9th...should find out Wed. if it's a 'he' or another 'she'. :) If it's another 'she' I swear I'm buying a tarantula or something....5 cats, 1 dog - all female. I'm outnumbered 7 to 1 in my own home! :D (that would be 8 to 1 of course if it's a 'she')

While not as bad zero2dash, there is my wife, our dog (female) and now our baby girl. If our second is a girl.... well I will just spend a buch of time in the [H]ard bunker.

:D

My wife's accelerated timelines (she wants kid and house in the next 12 months) is what is freaking me out. House is already on track. I'm meeting with the agent today ahead of our meeting on Saturday. I'm meeting with her foreman regarding "upgrades" to my office: 2 or 3 dedicated 20amp circuits, network ready the entire house and other stuff.

I'm also going to take a look at the lot. It backs onto a greenbelt so no neighbors behind us.

My wife told me yesterday, we are definitely getting movers. She was looking at my server cabinet as she was saying this :D :D

Also yesterday, my wife setup the appointments for the fertility clinic. Not looking forward to the semen sample I will have to produce into the wee little cup LOL

Sounds like you have everything under control. You gotta do what you gotta do.

If you're putting in the dedicated circuits for folding boxen you probably don't want 5KW (if you decide to put those circuits to work) of heat right in you office. You could always make a closet nearby for you rack with it's own own dedicated ventilation or something so you're office isn't 30C all year long. Sending the hot air straight outside would save even more power. If you could have a ventilation fan blow air straight from you server room/closet/rack out through the roof or wall you would save a lot on cooling in the summer.

Tell them you need an 8" funnel or an "accuracy assistant." Request rubber gloves, then hand them back unused after you leave the room. If they let the wife go in with you, have her do the same thing. There are plenty of ways to share the feelings of discomfort.

Good luck with the plans. Sounds like you are going to need to gently calm down the Mrs if she expects to get pregnant within 3 months of starting treatments.

good luck with the real life stuff. You gotta keep your priorities straight!

Great point. In my experience (we've watched probably 5-7 couples go through fertility issues, oddly enough), one of the best ways to get pregnant is to get the Mrs to calm down and stop freaking out about getting pregnant. Something about the stress of the treatments, etc, seems to make getting pregnant difficult for some people.

She is starting to calm down :D

We don't start treatments till the end of the month, but the appointment at least has been set.

I did look at the lot that was suggested to us and found out it had a $20K lot premium and their cheapest 2 story was $250K. YIKES!!!

I went a different builder as well yesterday and absolutely fell in love with one of their homes and they have an available 28K SF Lot with only a $6K Lot Premium. The house actually has a bedroom with a closet that has a window (thinking Window AC unit to put my server into). It may be a stretch to put my server cabinet in there though, but a window AC unit may be the ticket to keeping my office cool and sticking everything into a closet so I have more room.
