Slow Extracting Zip files?

Hi,

I noticed as I dowloaded the wow zip mods that they uncompress very slow. Was wondering if anyone with Core 2 Duos was having the same issues.


I have last years Intel Retail Edge Bundle.

harddrive would be especially if a larger file and unzipping to the same drive as the file is on.

try a diff program?

The files are small. The World Of Warcraft mods are at max 1 MB or so.

So whats your HDD setup?

Might consider running a fitness test on your HDD to make sure all is well. I have had no issues with zipping or rarring. Hope you get it straightened out!

What program do you guys recommend for testing out the hd? It is a Western Digital 250GB Sata Drive (7200).

run HDTune and let us know your avg transfer rates. FYI, I have the WD2500KS drive and its a slow 52MB/s. If you're results are slower than that, you may need to update your SATA Controller drivers (chipset drivers).

You might also want to check to see if anything else is thrashing your hard drive at the same time. Some antivirus programs are bad about this.

The most likely culprits are the hard drive or the drivers used for your storage controller.

Going to run a defrag and see if there are any drivers I need to update. So far it looks like it is the drive?

Not the fastest hard drive, what make/model is it? Also, what OS and what program are you using to unzip? Sometimes those two make a big difference (Vista used to be slow as all hell before a fix IIRC).

Don't have the model. I was using WinXP and using the windows unzip utility. (When you right click on a zip file it ask "extract all".)
