i am having some trouble with 2 of my systems. they are folding bigadv units very slowly.

#1
i7 920 @ 3.75 ghz
project 2684
last frame: 1 hour and 11 minutes.

now this rig finished the unit before with times around 45-50 minutes. any ideas on what's going on?

#2
i7 920 @ 3.822 ghz
prjoect 2684
last frame: 50 minutes 2 seconds.

now this one was avg. around 53 minutes a frame for the most part, but has sped up a little lately. this is the fastest clock of my systems, and is no where close to where it should be.

The second system seems to be doing about the norm (give or take) for an i7 and the P2684. The first system is way too slow. Check to determine if there are other apps/processes consuming CPU cycles.

Also, change the priority of the client to "normal" or better. The default "low/idle" is too humble with CPU time allocation.

This is a very interesting point and want to ask you if you have seen a significant improvement raising the priority level above low?

For bigadv clocked at 3.8 GHz, I have seen improvement in P2864. However, this is my only machine, so I work on it, too.

I have two dedicated folders that run only the CPU client. I want to try this, what did you use to increase the priority level and have it maintained, a third-party priority/affinity tool?

well i decided to just restart the slow system to see if that helps. i don't see anything running in the background that would be hurting it. but i do have 2 x 260s folding as well

Just Task Manager. I oneunit all of my BigAdv, since I am not a full time folder, yet. I am pumping a bigadv right now, P2686.

That will do it. I have GPU clients on one of my -bigadv machines and depending on the WU, they can hurt the SMP client to the point of adding well over 10 minutes to the TPF. It's not that bad with all the GPU WUs, but some of them like the 353s kill the SMP client. You might want to try shutting down one or both GPU clients for several hours to see the difference and if it's worth continuing to run them, especially on the system taking more than one hour per frame.

OK, thanks.

^ This

450's seem to be the best GPU WU for SMP clients.

well after restarting the #1 machine (that was taking over an hour per frame), the first frame took 51 min 21 seconds. not great, but better than before
