Ive currently got a 8800gt 256mb, can it be used in SLI with a 512?

i know the core and mem clocks run slightly different speeds, but is it possible in theory?

yes, but u would only be able to use 256MB of your other 512MB 8800GT, so instead of having 768MB u would only get 512MB

Actually, you're a bit off there.

You'll only be able to use 256MB of VRAM total if you go with an SLI setup. SLI doesn't double the amount of RAM available. It justs mirrors the RAM, sorta like RAID1 for hard drives.

But yes you can use an 8800GT 512MB in SLI with your 8800GT 256MB. With SLI, the fastest card will default to the speeds and memory limitations of the second card.

isn't that what i just said?

Kind of. Had to clear your mistake about the VRAM:

Two 256MB video cards in SLI does not mean you'll get 512MB total VRAM. You'll only be able to use 256MB of VRAM in SLI.

But yeah, almost the same thing as you said.
