Skyrim Acceleration layer

Q6600 @ 3.6 / X48 / 2GB 6950 Toxic unlocked / 8GB G.Skill

I have shit cranked (insert picture proof here) @ 1080 with 2x AA ( no FXAA) and don't drop below 30FPS now. Massive massive difference to settings that were barely playable before.

Where it used to stutter, it doesn't. Panoramic outdoor viewings are smooth now.

Just played with the files installed for like 45 minutes after adjustments and had to come back here and say something.

Try this out.

If only.

So is Skybooster what we're supposed to being using now? Do we get rid of TESVAL.dll or use both?

I would say test for yourself. TESVAL.dll is only for the AL, must be deleted if you're going to use Skyboost.

Hi guyz , its me! :p

So tested both one at 1.8ghz and one at 3.1ghz on dual core e6320 2gigs of ram on xp.
Loading game from save ...at Dragons reach, i go down to the square to make sure the towns loaded fully
go back up to top stair and look at the same spot on the tree.

This is what i got .... V:vanilla Tval:Tesval SB : Skyboost

1.8ghz /3.1 ghz

V: 15 / 27 fps
Tval: 19 /31 fps
SB: 25 / 38 fps

Tesval seemed to have a more stable frame rate but there's no denying that Skyboost gives a ridiculous
boost.

Had a crash running Skyboost with Tesval installed (even tho i used default launcher) but it did launch.
So i removed Tesval. Gonna use Skyboost unless i find something wrong while using it.

10 fps with same hardware is a awesome boost.

Is there any IQ degredation, or are these gains solely from improving the code?

Still want to play this game, but I'm being stubborn and not disabling Crossfire to make it work. So far I can get it to run smoothly, but with horrible texture pop-in/out and lighting flickering all over. Going to the menu has constant flickering.

Skyboost adds sse2 instruction for mordern cpus and some optimization in the code.
It will not change any IQ at all since it doesn't mess with the video card.

Try lowest setting and see if it still flickers. If so it might be another problem than just settings.
If it stops, find the setting that makes it and find how high u can put it before it happens.

People with high end rigs have been using the extra gain to push their settings higher which is always
nice.

I've put about 10 hours in with Skyboost on and have not noticed anything unusual. There are some area's of the game that flicker but it's the same without SB as with.

As for XFIRE support, you may be waiting a while to play if you choose not to disable it. The truth is, going into a multi-GPU setup you need to know that not all games fully support it. There's nothing wrong with disabling it to get a game to work because the game may never be fully supported with the proper driver updates.

i havent used this yet but i have had a good deal better performance since they implemented the 4gb usage by default over the 4gb exe i had been using

I would just disable crossfire. With crossfire enabled I get constant menu flickering, some other texture flickering throughout the game and decreased performance (using 12.1 preview drivers). I managed to get rid of the flicker by choosing different crossfire modes (12.1 driver custom profiles) but the performance was still reduced.

Just one of my 6870's runs this game nicely with skyboost and everything at full settings (1920x1080, 4xaa, ultra settings). I just re-enable crossfire when I play my other games.

Yeah I just read that. x87!?! Is there a logical reason not to use SSE? I thought x87 is ancient and going to be depricated.

x87 is a floating point-related subset of the x86 architecture instruction set. It originated as an extension of the 8086 instruction set in the form of optional floating point coprocessors that worked in tandem with corresponding x86 CPUs.

Was walking today in skyrim and.... a dragon came and i killed it but its skin didn't load and i didn't get the soul. Also later there was a book floating in the sky.... saved and no clip but couldn t touch or pick it up even when canceling no clip. Died after canceling the no clip and trying to get the book.

Reloaded and it fell to the ground.

Might just be a vanila bug still funny :p

come to think of it i had a dragon glitch last night after using the skyboost myself... dragon was dead but wouldnt die.. it later popped up next to me and let me loot it

I also noticed my companion is taking a diferent route then it use to.. The general store in Whitehold my companion use to run in the back door when I went in the front.. he now follows me through the front. only with skyboost though.. strange

But they didn't for the PC. At all. That's the point.
You missed his.

Even if consoles did not exist in any form whatsoever, you could still ship a PC game without setting compiler optimization flags like /O2.

I tried Skyboost and it definitely helped, I'm on an i7-950. In Windhelm, at the gate facing the smithing area I'd typically take a hit but it appears to be running smooth there now.

Darn ... i finaly decided to stop lollygagging around and do the main quest.

And ... i'm done ....it's over... :(

Guess i'll have to go hunt some bandit leaders.

I'm not sure older versions of MSVC (and I'm calling the 2010 version old here) will emit code using purely SSE registers... the new developer preview seems to be the first one that will do it. It may or may not be a speed win anyway, I think the CPU can technically execute the FPU code and SSE stuff at the same time and it's not really like the FPU is slower on its own, though it may be less predictable.

If you really want to take advantage though, SSE of course shines when you're getting into SIMD stuff which is in itself a can of worms.

I have definitely noticed some bizarre NPC behavior which i don't think was there pre Skyboost. So far it hasn't been anything game breaking, but it is definitely odd and i keep my eye on it.

Does Skyboost work with SKSE w/ SkyUI or do I need to remove SKSE? I noticed that enbdev's DX9 mod doesn't work with SKSE but the FXAA injector does.

Yes. All you have to do is remove TESVAL.dll and keep using SKSE.

Cool. I'm not sure what's wrong with my current installation of Skyrim but its been hardcrashing my system w/ only a black screen after playing in the game for so long. I see people are having multiple issues with that, so I'm unsure if any of the mods I have including SKSE are causing me the headache. Any insight, Q-BZ?

With tesval and skyboost installed launching normaly i'd crash after a few min so i removed tesval.
Saw ppl saying they d use both ... launching from tesval with skyboost, files in the folder.
Didn't try that way, skyboost is good enough alone.

For those who have tried both SB and AL and are experiencing issues, make sure you have completely deleted all AL related files. If you are not sure what files to delete, remove and redownload the game to make sure, then drop the two SB files back in.

^^ Hmmm. I only deleted one file to "remove" AL. Perhaps this is the cause of some of the weird NPC behavior i've seen.

As far as I remember, there is only one file for AL - the TESVAL.dll, right? The other files are still needed for SKSE assuming you are using it for other mods.

I wouldn t re-download 6gig to remove a 200kb file >.>
I just removed the skse exe launcher in the skyrim folder and that fixed the problem.

Go to the Skyrim home folder and press CTRL+F for "find file", type in the name of the file and it'll tell you where it is. Alternatively, open the readme of the mod and look where it told you where to put the file in the first place. ;)

Yeah , that's what i said... just in less words :p ehehe

Correct.

I thought they'd made it clear that you're not supposed to use Skyboost and the TESVAL at the same time. One or the other.

Yep skyboost definetively says u shouldn t use it with tesval , but you know ppl.... can't read...

Everyone has to remember that any plugin/mod/ini tweak will react different to everyone's system, this is why its so much easier for them to make games for consoles where all they have to do is make it work on one (or two) systems. Other programs you have running or maybe something you have installed in windows that someone else doesn't can effect your overall system stability as well. so in vanilla two systems might both work perfectly but those same systems (same cpu, ram, gpu...) might react differently with a few tweaks because of some random factor.

Anyway, I recently had to reinstall Skyrim because I tweaked too much and my game became 100% unstable (crashing after 20 seconds), I reinstalled it changed my ugrids to 7 and the cellbuffer to 100, nothing else in the ini. installed the mods I wanted (with caution) and everything runs super smooth, then I installed the AL and 30 minutes in got a Crash to Desktop! tried it again for an hour and no crashes... I am okay with a few random crashes if it isn't a constant crash after X time or in the exact spot every time, it only takes a minute to restart the game :D

Anyway, for people using a screen with resolution above 1080P you might want to see if these mods even help you at all, if they have only a couple FPS improvement its not worth installing them. Everyone says this game is CPU Limited but that depends on your system. I am running a i5 2500k OC 4.4 ghz and a GTX 560 Ti 448 OC to 950/2100. my GPU constantly is 99% load, while my CPU goes from 50% to 80% (might spike to 99% at times but I haven't really benchmarked it that much, just random checks. The reason is probably because I am running the game at 2560X1440, but any plugin/mod that enhances CPU performance won't really help me or others in my situation. I am happy though as I am currently getting 35-40 FPS at worse, 40-50 normal, 60 inside (left V Sync on as I don't have any mouse issues and don't need over 60 FPS).

I was able to stabilize Skyrim by re-doing the ini files through the DNA config generator. I might have to tone down a bunch of those settings if I want to use more HD texture mods though... :) I finally got to kill my first dragon last night & I was thoroughly amused with the game. :D

Smoothing out the framerate while having excellent IQ is what I'm going for, so testing a lot of mods is what I've been up to. :)
