OK, well, I know I may have a few people ticked off now, talking all about getting an SR2 and getting over 100k and what not. Well, I know I havn't really backed any of that up yet, but since I'm so crunched for time I figured I'd atleast show I'm not trying to blow smoke up anyone's ass. I'll use this thread to document the birth and life of Skynet 2 (after the first rig was a 1000$ mistake lol).

To start things off, all good rigs start as a pile of pieces, and Skynet is the same. What we have here is 6 gigs of Gskill (i think lol) ram waiting on 6 more to come in tomorrow, 2x ES 5530 xeons, 2x True Spirit's (with second fan not shown), an 8400 GS for dedicated video (SMP only rig) and last but not least, the star of the show, the SR2!

Pics of the build process
*Note: there is no such thing as hiding cables on this bad boy lol

Things I've found out thus far:
1: It has more power connectors than the average American Kitchen (6 not counting the ones for multi GPU setups)
2: a 4x SLI bridge is HUGE!!
3: the double digit LED block some upper end mobo's have shows the CPU-0 temp when there is no codes showing, cool!!
4: I guess there is an extra add on board that should come with this but they dont have it in stock yet, more to follow when it arrives.
5: If you put a 120mm fan on every connector available you might be able to fly this thing, but due to size FAA requiers a pilot's course
6: If you dont put video in slot one on the x16 lanes then the computer will boot, search for 5-7 seconds, shut down, restart on the next lane, and I assumer it would continue one time for each lane past 0 you are lol
7:Mounting dual TRUE's is a pain in the ass

OTHER FIGURES THAT YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW...
P95 Wattages and Temps (P95 pulls much more and runs hotter than WinSMP, but a good benchmark for draw and heat)

397 watts with a 150 BCLK (2.7Ghz), temps are 55 all around
415 watts with a 160 BCLK (2.88Ghz), temps are 57-59 all around (Added 1 more 120mm fan from here on out)
440 watts with a 165 BCLK (2.97Ghz), temps are 58-59 all around
450 watts with a 170 BCLK (3.06Ghz), temps are 58-60 all around (CPU fans hit max on and off (61), throws off numbers, Added +1 120mm fan, 4 total fans now)
453 watts with a 175 BCLK (3.15Ghz), temps are 58-60 all around
458-465 watts with a 180 BCLK (3.24Ghz), temps are 59-61all around (changed fan profiles, should be a tad cooler at cost of wattage, fans still back and forth)
472 watts with a 185 BCLK (3.33Ghz), temps are 59-63 all around (both CPU fans max'd after 2-3 minutes)
-216 idle (temps 33-36)

Should pull less than my GPU folder does now, and put out less heat, all while making much more points, win win

I love that little 8400GS, I wish I would have gotten a 2nd before they all were sold. :(
SR-2 droolage

I grabbed 4 total lol, using 3 right now (including that one)

Man...I am jealous of all of you guys.

Looking forward to the build log.

Kendrak with the assist!

Yea, 5530's, I posted that right when I got to work, kinda tired

Ram came in, on my way to pick it up now, might get a POST tonight, may hold on the OC until I get the AC fixedtomorrow tho

can 7/64 ultimate run dual sockets or do I need server 08?

7/64 can run dual sockets

Although Ive seen slightly better performance from my 08R2 boxes
But i cant conclusively say its the OS cause the desktop, is well a desktop and it is used for more than just folding.

because windows 7 as more of an overhead then windows server 08 due to aero and a few other things running in the background that dont run in windows server..

Evil said he had better numbers with '08, that's what I'm going to run.

Since I cant find my 08 disc I'll start with 7 and disable all the goodies, then once I get things hammered out I'll go back to the Server OS

Ram is here, but I gotta take a nap, been going for like 36 hours, in this heat im just asking for problems

Ok, that storm at 1600 took the power out, been 3 1/2 hours now. Plus, with no AC, ambient in the house is 86 and slowly rising

notlooking like it's gonna happen today

Do what I did when I deployed to Saudi. Inside temp was 90, but outside was 120, imagined I was on the beach......it kinda worked.

I think that would require a few cold beers to work, go on give it a try ;)

Drinking a large quantity of beer at those kinds of temperatures could be dangerous :(

I have my window unit in the computer room running on full blast and the temps hit a peak of 86 degrees today and are now coming down since the sun is starting to set. You can do what I ended up doing which is gradually taking stuff off and see if that helps. How far you want to go is up to you.

Starting the build, pics to follow tonight at work

I am sooo jealous. I had to stop my folding yet again due to some unexpected repairs to my jeep. :(
I can't seem to get ahead. Hopefully that wont be a problem when I finally get my degree.

Hang in there bro, it'll even out soon

As for the rig, I am in Win7 install now, HOLY SHIT that was a pain in the ass mounting two TRUEs on there, they are close! Idle Temps are 31/33 (CPU2 is close to the PSU, youll see in my pics, there is NO WAY to manage cables on these things lol)

I've got mine just on the bench, I will make a custom oak or birch tray for it some day and get it on a roll out shelf in the rack, but for now this will do lol. Other than that, still installing 7/64 on it, will report back later, but all ram and all cores are seen in bios so that should be good.

16 graphs in task manager kicks ASS!!

all ram and all cores good, temps are 32/34 idle in win 7/64 with Aero and all the goodies on, power draw is 178 watts/idle, 307 watts running P95 at high draw mode while win update grabs stuff offline. Temps are 46/49 after 10 minutes

Not bad for stock.

Here's the bad news, I'm still hung over, still drunk-ish, and I have to work tonight, so I gotta drink more water, shower, and sleep. But fear not, tomorrow starts the numbers game!

OK, pics posted on main page, first page is a bit more organized now, all stat tracking will be kept in nice order on the main page, 4th post now. Keep the thread going tho, let me know what y'all are thinking or any suggestions for a layout

thanks!!

Would you HSF benefit from a push/pull?

What speed memory are you using? When you do your A3 runs am curious if faster clocked memory does make a difference

What exactly is it mounted on? I am still amazed that with all of the hoopla, there are still only 2 (and one of them with modification) Case Manufacturers have created a Case or a Mobo tray capable of handling this behemoth. I would love to see an acrylic test bench for this bad boy. My wife has always pushed that everything sit in the Server Cabinet, but I don't think this is going to sit anywhere besides my main rig.

Just sits on my bench for now, with standoffs In to keep it offthe wood

I've got second fans for each cooler but can't find the clips yet, have to buy them somewhere

that's my ram

Last post for the night, I'll update my front pages later

For reference, Kendrak has...
His at 3.3 (175x19) on intel coolers. 1:49 TPF; 486 watts;

I have;
Mine at 3.3 (185x18) on TRUEs; 1:45 TPF according to HFM.NET; 419 watts while folding a 6071(A3), temps are about 55-58 and fans are not even on max yet.

Just FYI, that's a scratch over 40,100 PPD according to HFM.NET!!! Too bad I'll shut her down in a second.
According to current PPD and wattage, that puts me at 95.4 PPD/W !!!!
And that's just on standard Windows A3's, not even counting BigAdv's yet...

Awesome results and very helpful info

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for y'all, hope to push to 3.6 or beyond tomorrow, baring no more damn storms

full report on system voltages and other temps coming tomorrow!!

Edit::
ok, so I left it running anyways, turned in my first unit already, should have two by the 0700 update, slight descrepency in points, HFM reports my time as 1:45 TPF while my final score reflects about 1:48 TPF, I'm assuming upload and download times play a part, andmaybe it didn't send on the first go. Who knows, but it's nice to complete a unit designed for 3-6 days in .12 days (3 hours or so lol)

Front Page is now in final format, just awaiting more info, please go check out all the data I have right now and let me know what you think!!

Looks great! Keep the numbers coming! I want to see 50K+ ppd on this thing!

Got a 6701 I think it is, slows me down to 25k, 4 something TPFs
this normal?
