Simple question e6600 vs. e8500

Okay I know obviously the e8500 is a superior processor in just about every way (to my e6600). I just was wondering since my motherboard (in sig) was made during the 1200mhz fsb will this new 1333mhz fsb processor work at the specs listed for the e8500. Sorry if this sounds confusing the way I am asking, just not sure HOW to ask it. Basically will I have compatibility issues? I believe my mobo is rev. 2
 
Consider that the E8500 has a 9.5 multiplier.
Work out from that the maximum speed you can get with your motherboard.

For compatibility, check the manufacturers web site.
 
They mean that there's no official 1333Mhz FSB support, but it should work. They're basically covering their asses. I'm not sure how well the 965s OC, as I've only really had experience with P35s and X38s on the Intel side, but I'd have to guess you'll at very least be able to run it at stock speeds, and probably get a little OC out of it. Make sure you flash to the latest BIOS before swapping out, though.

A 3.2Ghz C2D is really fast enough for just about anything these days -- just have the upgrade itch?

No... Intel basically sets limits on official supported FSB speeds for a given chipset. For the 965, the official limit is below 1333Mhz quad pumped. This means that some very poorly binned 965s out there could theoretically (though it's very unlikely) be unable to hit 1333Mhz FSB quad pumped, but wouldn't technically be "out of spec" hence, "support by OCing only."
