Simple jumper question

I've been configuring drive jumpers for master/slave for nearly two decades now... but one thing I could never really figure out is this: Say i have drive 0 set to slave, and drive 1 set to slave also. Without experimenting for myself I just figured i'd ask the experts on here :p Also goes for other conflicts... such as drive 0 set to slave and drive 1 set to cable select... what happens? I remember it being a big deal when i was a teenager, but do jumper settings really matter much now, or does the BIOS or OS sort it all out or something? Thanks guys...
 
How long are we supposed to wait before bumps? This doesnt count as one bc its a question ;)
 
Prepare for a long wait, the guys on [H] haven't used drives with jumpers since last millennium or so.
Personally, I think bumping posts after just a few minutes is offensive, especially for such critical issues.
On another note, today is Morel Day according to the French revolutionary calendar.

I understand.. it was kind of rude of me to bump after a few min... esp this late... i apologize bro....
 
IIRC, nothing happened really, at worst drives weren't detected. But newer PATA controller would not care about the jumpers and work anyway.
