Simple Build

Hello folks,

Im seeking some help in building a relatively simple system.

It will do web browsing, download music, use itunes, stream series, watch youtube, burn a dvd once in a while, do some school work..well you get the drift..the normal none [H]..

I know there are rules when requesting something like this, but I want to look locally first (i dont live in the US).

so I would like you to just give me a raw setup as to what should I look at.
a friend of mine said for example:
Athlon x2 260
4 gigs memory
biostar 880g+
samsung f3 1tb
corsair 430watt cx
24x dvd burner
windows 7 home premium 64bit

would this setup be enough for the above mentioned tasks?
what would you change?

That setup should be fine for that usage scenario. With that said, some notes:
- Here in the U.S, that X2 260 isn't that good of a buy considering that the tri-core Athlon II x3 445 costs only $10 more. That extra core will help out with multi-tasking. So see if there's a similar price difference as well in your area:

- RAM wise, make sure you either get a single 4GB stick of RAM or 2 x 4GB sticks of RAM. That mobo only two RAM slots so you should avoid 2x2GB or 2x1GB sticks of RAM. More RAM doesn't hurt so definitely one stick or two sticks of 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM

- That Corsair PSU is of good quality. However, here in the U.S, this Antec PSU is a better deal due to it having more power on the +12V rail and of being slightly higher quality:
$45 - Antec NEO ECO 400C 400W PSU

I jumped on newegg to get a general idea of the 8 items i need (including windows), so i can print out and start hovering locally.

What about a h61 mobo paired with a Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6GHz Dual-Core ?

given the needs, would you go with intel and h61 or would yo go with the tri core and 880g ?

i just checked...the system build around the G620 is like $120 more than the Tri core.

if its like that on newegg, that means itll be worse locally

so i suppose the tri core will do the "heavy duty" tasks alright, dont you think ?

I just built one of these this morning for similar task. I am very impressed with it, definitely great bang for the buck.

I used the Asrock H61M (basic model), gskill 1333 value ram and the G620.

All of those parts are good quality. I don't see any issues with it from a quality perspective. I can't comment on the price side of things since I don't know what country/store you're buying from.

yes, i know..let's not see price wise.

Sorry I don't do things that way. Those parts may be of good quality but they may a poor buy from a price perspective. Seeing the price influences our parts recommendations.

Well I'd require him/her to answer the following questions that you haven't covered:
6) Will you be overclocking?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.

3) If you go the AMD road, your build in your first post with the X3 Rana 445 would be under that limit; you could even squeeze a video card (AMD 5670/6670) in the mix and be around your budget

and Danny, well...it will be as imple setup to the the simple stuff..

Sounds to me like the AMD would probably end up being the better buy in this case, but without knowing the prices as Danny said it's hard to justify what's the best setup.

If the Intel build costs too much, then it's performance over the AMD becomes moot, but if it's still relatively cheap then it will be a good option to go with Intel. Otherwise, go with the AMD setup.

What you could do in this case is a little homework for us.

Go to the stores, price out both systems you mentioned above and report back to us. Then we can go from there.
