Silent Video Card Folding!

for a 9800GT id say that heatsink is a wee bit small for passive cooling and doing folding unless you have decent cooling in your case.. seen a lot better passive cooling options on cards that produce even less heat then the 9800GT..

That cooler looks a lot like a Thermalright product. Anyone knows who manufacturers it?

How high can you OC with the S1?

Can't really say, as I haven't pushed the cards much except for the shader clocks. Both are 8800 GT's and are running at 700/1800ish/950. I think one has the shaders at 1770 and the other at 1830.

Haven't tried adding a low RPM fan to either yet, but I imagine it would help a bit.

a low rpm fan works wonders on the s1.. even one those thin fans.. a guy posted some pictures of one with a low rpm thin fan on it so it would fit in sli and worked pretty well.. just not sure where the thread is to find it again.. but its on the forum some where..

You might be able to run one of these cards passively, but a fanless folding rig with a few cards wouldn't be feasible. You need a decent amount of airflow to be able to cool these things down properly if you want to run more than one. Plus, it really isn't a very cost-effective avenue.

Yeah i dont think that 24/7 folding on this thing would fly without a fan blowing on the heatsink. I used to have a big copper heatsink on my 7900GT with heatpipes and such but it got pretty warm without the fan blowing directly on it. And a 9800GT probably runs a bit warmer than my 7900GT. :D

I've had an AC Accelro S2 on my 8800GS for a while now. Even at pretty decent clocks... around 700/800/1800 ... It keeps it around 55-60*C with only 2x120's in the case, and none of them directly on the video card.
