There used to be a sticky about this topic. Where did it go? I did a search for "fan" but found everything except for what I was looking for.

IMHO your best choices are:
1) Globalwin NCB 120mm
2) Nexus 120mm
3) Yate Loon 120mm D12SL-12
4) AeroCool Turbine 1000/2000

Stay away from ThermalTake & SilentX fans, they use shoddy practices when measuring the sound level!

You can always head over to www.silentpcreview.com and see what other peoples oppinions are as they tend to be far more picky when it comes to noise compared to our overclocking-crazy friends over here

The yate-loons seem to have a really good reputation around here. I just picked up a few like them so far, they are incredibly cheap too so cannot complain :)

I have a couple Yate-Loons I never installed. I figured since they were so cheap, I could get a couple just to have around in case I needed them :).

Yate-Loons are okay, but not as much air flow as I would like. I wouldnt mind sacrificing a little noise for a good amount more airflow.

example the panaflo FBA12G12L1A does 68.9 CFM @ 30.0 dBA

Yate loons are the same as nexus. So its worth just getting some Yate loons and 5V'ing them.

the new scythe s-flex are ingredably silent. personally i have the 63cfm model and i can't complain, these are the most silent fans that i have ever owned, although the price might turn some of you gues off. they cost here in Finland 19.40€.

I have three Fluid Dynamic Bearing fans, two 80mm and one 120mm, made by Artic Cooling and Scythe respectively. They are silent. The loudest fan I have is the CPNS 9500, even after I turned it down with Fan Mate. I also have had good luck with Vantec Stealth fans. Maybe not quite as quiet, but not loud by any means.

Yes and no. Nexus does use the D12SL-12 for their Nexus 120mm fan line and they add a resistor to slow it down. However, they do more cherry picking when it comes to the fans. If you were to get just the Yate Loons, buy an extra one to make sure you get quiet copies as there are often a few bad apples that sound much louder than the rest - then again it really does depend how picky you are.

Just got my yate loon's installed on my watercooled rig, and they are soooo quiet. I have to have my ear within 5 inches to hear them, and its only a little air noise, no motor noise.
