Shuttle won't fold

When I ever I start FAH on my shuttle, after about 15-20 seconds the monitor goes standby and I can't get it back without restarting the computer. What could be causing this?

Graphical? or Console?

Graphical used to do that with mine too...never figured out why though.

How are your temps? Could be a weird lockup due to overheating. Check temps with something like Speedfan and try stressing the machine with something else, like Prime95. My SN45Gv2 folds along quite nicely, on a shelf below my desk. :)

Ive been folding in my Sn95G5 (NF3/939/AGP) for a while without issues but SpeedFan makes monitoring temps and controlling the fan easy. Check out your temps.

The shuttle just freezes right after folding starts, its the graphical console, and speedfan is monitoring the temps and reports 104F idle, and I have the fan ramp up at 128F.

EDIT: It used to be able to fold before I changed my graphics card to a 9600pro, which I took out of my gaming computer since I was upgrading it.

I'd suggest trying the setup-fold script; it'll automatically install the console and set it up as a service. Then you'll know if it's the client in general or a cooling problem, or just the graphical client up to its usual nonsense.

Should I just abandon the graphical for the console?

I did. For one, the console is more efficient, and if I run it as a service I don't have to worry about it. Also, the graphical client messes up OpenGL software, such as games (when I used the graphical, morrowind would start up, but minimize itself when I tried to click it back up). I switched and everything works fine.

It's probably a good idea; most people's problems are solved by switching to the console, and the fold-as-service keeps it going more often - if you log off it'll still be running.

Do I install the console to a diff. directory than the graphi.?

You can drop it anywhere you want. Everything is done via a service, so as long as you don't decide to move stuff around after, you're good to go.

It probably doesn't matter. I don't think there are any conflicts.

It's probably a good idea, that'll make sure you get the credit for that WU.

I've never tried it since I've never used the graphical, but others have said that the console will start where the grphical left off if you install the console in the same directory that the graphical was in.

Could someone that has tried this speak up. I didn't check but I don't think we have anything about this in the FAQ thread. Please post up your experiences with trying this.

I've never switched from graphical to console (always use console!), but in upgrading from one console version to another, I've had it lose WUs. Just last week I found two machines still running the classic 3.25 version of the console and I remember one of them deleted the old WU and started a new one. If I had the luxury of waiting, I would have let it go until it was done with that WU.
