I'm sort of sad that I got these :/

E4.jpg

The isolation is wonderful of course. As for bass, once you get a good seal it climbs to the level of mediocre. The treble is just tinny, it's fake. Maybe i'm just asking too much. I'm not really sure if I'll keep these or not, I haven't decided yet. Amping them from my Pimeta improved the dynamics and gave the bass a bit more kick but overall i'm still unimpressed. I guess maybe i'll change my mind once I actually get the Zen Xtra that's on it's way and I use these portably for real :p

edit: points to anyone who can tell me what's funny in the picture

have you let them burn in?
I don't know how much time the previous owner put on them; I never really thought much about it, am not a real big burn in believer. How long do you suggest?

I've got E3s. I think they're good earbuds... but they're still earbuds. They don't even come close to the senn hd525s I've had for years. On the other hand, I can put the E3s in my pocket, hehehe.

I use mine on the subway and around nyc, where not hearing trains, horns, beggars, ex-girlfriends, etc. comes in handy.

I have the e4c's and love 'em. They completely blow away the old Sony ex71's I had previously. I get fantastic sound even w/o the EQ on my iPod.

You shouldnt have to eq $299 earphones to begin with anyway.... so that's good that they sound good without eq.

As for the OP, I hear the same thing you heard.... I dont think its a matter of burn in.

Still no one catching the funniness on the pic.
I'll give you one hint: look at the tips

The man needs foamies. :D
Foamies hurt my left ear canal :(
Well, I give up. The oddity is that the left tip is a small and the right tip is a medium. I have funny ears lol :p

IIRC, IEMs do not benifit from burn-in. ;)

I do agree with your review Vertigo. I had a chance to demo a pair a while back, and was a bit unimpressed considering the price. The bass was just too uncontrolled and the mids didn't seem right.

That's why I decided on the ER-4P. Their bass is extremely tight and the highs & mids are perfect. The bass is lacking that certain "oomph" but a little eq helps a lot.

I've had these for a while now...haven't done a proper burn in, but I figure eventually they'll get burned in with normal use. I've noticed the lack of bass as well. It's not that the bass sounds sloppy...just the opposite, it sounds plenty tight and controlled, it's just lacking some presense. The mids and highs sound great to me though. No complaints other than the bass.

I am going to disagree with the poster here. I have these headphones as well as the e3s and and i totally love them. Of course im using an amp to run them but even without the amp i still like them alot. When im flying for business there is nothing that beats them for portability and sound quality.

Perhaps I got a bum pair then? Really, the highs are just not what I expect from what I've read about them.

Perhaps i don't know but the highs on these are great. In fact i can run these on my thinkpad t43p without any amp and even my crappy build in soundcard sounds good and loud enough to watch movies and listen to mp3. But I'm a sound guy so I bought a good portable amp to run them when i have those long flights and want to watch and listen to movies and music. But at home i like my sennheiser 590s. But remember for most high end headphones you will need good amps and good receivers.

you got an earphone designed for treble... not for bass... if you want bass you got with superfi5eb or pro..

i have the superfi5pro and it doesn't have the clarity of e4, but it still blows away the sony ex71 and the bass is nearly as good... the eb should have the same bass and better quality bass and better treble.. pretty much blows the ex71 away in all department.. unless u find soundstage a bad thing

Heh. Problem solved. I've yet to isolate it to the crappy interconnect I was using or my Pimeta itself, but these sound much, much better straight out of my receiver. :D

Receivers are your friend. My current favorite is the denon 3805. This is more than i will ever need.
