Shouldnt I be getting better temps?

Well I just finished setting up my new rig. No new hardware but I got a new case and new liquid cooling for the CPU/GPU. It was a great process to build. Took a lot of case modification and planning.

Specs:

Gigabyte DS3L Mobo
eVGA 8800 Ultra OC'ed to 700/2400
Intel C2D X6800 Extreme Ed.
4gb (1gb x4) Corsair XMS DDR2 PC6400
OCZ GamerXtreme 700W PSU
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
74gb WD Raptor (Primary)
500gb WD Caviar (Secondary)

Cooling:

CPU Block is a D-Tek FuZion
GPU is a Swiftech MCW60
Swiftech MCR-320 Radiator
D5 Pump

Lian Li 1000B Case
Dell 3007 WFP Monitor 2560x1600

My idle temps for both CPU cores are around 35 or 36 C and GPU are about 40 C, room temp is ~21 C. I havent recorded them on load yet though.


I have to admit I thought temps on my CPU would be lower. Could something be wrong? People said that with this setup my Idle temps should be mid 20s like 24-26. Why is it so much higher? My room is at about 20 C at all times if not lower.

This is also with NO overclocks on right now, every clock is at stock. Whats up with this?

In the pic you can see how I have it set up. My flow is running counterclockwise from pump to res to cpu to gpu to rad back to pump.

Also note that the fans are pulling air through the radiator not pushing.

Nicely done. You might be recycling a little warm air through the rad. I mount the fans on top to blow the warm air up and away from the rad but it is not worth rebuilding that nice install for what might/maybe/who the hell knows, 1C of temp.

eh, about right with that OC, what you will find is that temps will not skyrocket as you begin to load the CPU. Your idle temps are about right IMO, you could crank up or put more powerful fans on to reduce Idle temps but the noise would be a factor. Its all about airflow through the rad and the temp of that air. It will actually work better as the CPU/GPU dumps more heat into the system increasing the difference between the rad temp and the temp if the air being pulled through the rad. Core temps will rise with a load but nothing like they would with air. I woujld not be concerned to much with what others say/claim, it is what it is and your temps indicate nothing is horribly wrong. System in my sig runs about 38-40C on idle hits 48-52C under very heavy load (TAT) in a cool room.
 
I agree with BillParrish, with watercooling, the difference between idle and load is much smaller and your idle temps is fine. Just push it and you will see the temps won't rise too fast. The GPU temp is fine as mine hover around 38C (not a Ultra but just a G80 GTS 640).

Thanks for the compliments. I forgot to remove that OC part though. Its actually at stock setings with those temps. NOW should be concerned?
 
Hard to say if you should worry without knowing load temps...

I dunno if you could do it without taking apart the loop, but putting a shroud on the rad might help.
 
Your temps aren't out of line considering you have a GPU that has the heat output of a small star.

Quick experiment, remove the GPU block and then the Ultra (or just dangle the Ultra with the block in place if your tubing is slack enough), just so you don't have to drain the loop.

Then slap in another PCIe card, and check your CPU idles. Bet it drops a fair amount without the Ultra heating things up.
 
The 8800's run extremely hot. On air people seem to be averaging 60C IDLE, up to 80C or more, which nvidia says is perfectly fine.

I have a 8800gt on my loop and it idles around 35, tops out around 42-45C after gaming for awhile.

If you had a different gcard or just had your CPU on the loop the temps would be alot lower. All things considered, where it's at now is fantastic compared to what it'd be on air.

Ouchies; mine idles at 46 and only loads into the 50's with the stock cooling. But yea, they are pretty hot.
 
what do you use to measure gpu temp other than itune. itune reads 43 cpu and 50 gpu under load. but core2 temp software reads cpu at 57. so the itunes is not reading the exact temp so teh gpu temp is probably incorrect also
