should i use SP3 for windows XP?

i am posting this from my new folding box, so far everything is going great, but i was wondering if i should install SP3 for XP pro i am using with the 177.35 drivers? and can i get some tips on the overclocking?

this baby should be up and running in a few hours after i stress test it with 3dmark to make sure she is stable!
 
Uh yea . . . Grab SP3. And all other windows patches for that matter.

Now what will we be OCing? An Nvidia GPU I take it? Look for Rivatuner. ;)

i was just wondering if there were any reports of problems with SP3 and the GPU client,

and yes i am using the Gigabyte 8800GT deal from newegg :)
 
SP3 is fine. No difference.
What are you Ocing?

Running SP3 on the system in the sig and no problems with the GPU client. The GPU client is the only reason I'm actually using XP at the moment.

I don't really care much for Windows. Thus, I normally use openSUSE. But I decided to get in on the GPU action for a bit and booted to my XP install.

I'm tempted to pull my 7600GT out of my secondary system and put it in my main system. Then put my 8800GT in my X2 system and let it run the GPU client. That way I can stay in Linux and still fold with the card. However, I don't really want to lose the performance of the 8800GT and I'm not sure how well the 7600GT would drive 1920x1200 in games.

I think you got a WTF because Vista deals with the Nvidia desktop lag/slowdown better.

I used GPU2 nvidia on XP for a few weeks and was so frustrated with the slow responses in programs and even when typing.

Vista has almost no noticeable slowdown from GPU2 folding. Only things that slow it down are animations that are normally smooth (like the firefox download complete image). I'm enjoying how little lag there is in Vista compared to XP. I'm even running dual GPU2 clients on my 9800GX2 in vista and there's no different between one instance and two.

I don't care for Vista and I'm about to nuke it from my X2 system and put either XP or openSUSE back on it. It's been annoying as hell and less stable. And this is not the first time I've used Vista, or the second or the third or even the fourth.

but XP over Vista for stability? That's my WTF.
36 systems at home and office, all switched to Vista and would never look back.
What is causing you a problem?

I just don't care for the OS at all. I don't like the way it's setup or the way it acts. I've also had some incompatibilities with some games and programs I run.

I've tried to like it ever since the betas and RCs through SP1 and no matter what, it just doesn't work for me.

 
Rivatuner does not detect my card, i thinks its the drivers that are not supported?
 
Anyone else with SP3 experience and F@H, any client? I've read on another forum it actually boosts PPD but never received confirmation on this.

As I side note, I will have to completely agree with Smoke regarding Vista. My experiences have been identical to his. It is very uncompromising with some older applications and the general slowdowns compared to XP make it impossible for me to tolerate installing it on my systems. Too bad it's better for the GPU client but I imagine Stanford will even things out with future client releases as they iron out the bugs.
