This is the current components for my PC.

MSI B550M Bazooka
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
G.SKILL Trident Z 32GB 3200 DDR4
Asrock 9070 xt steel legend
LG 45" 1440p 240hz monitor.

I'm looking at/debating on getting one of the CPU/Ram/Mobo combos from MicroCenter with the 9850X3D. I'm wondering if the difference will be noticeable and if it's worth it. Then the 2nd question is which board/chipset to get. I don't overclock, I mostly game everything from current AAA titles to retro stuff and casual stuff.

I think I'm debating between these 2 combo's.

Again I don't overclock, and besides gaming I don't stress my system. I feel upgrading to one of these two should hold me over for a good time but I'm not up on the chipset for motherboards to know which would be best.

I have a 360mm AIO already but it's up there in age/use so I was going to pick up another one while I was grabbing whichever combo I end up with. Though I was tempted to just do an air cooler instead of an AIO.

thermalright's ps120/pa120 or the 140 versions are the best bang for buck if you go air.
 
I mean I personally wouldn't upgrade with your set up. The x3d is mainly good for certain games, in others it doesn't give much of a tangible benefit. I mainly say this because DDR5 prices are crazy (sorry, I know I'm sick of this being discussed every day but its relevant here)


Are you CPU limited in any games at all right now? Your set up is very solid IMO. I don't see the platform upgrade making big enough of a difference to be worth the cost. I'd give it a couple years and reconsider
 
It will be noticeable if playing at 1080P, and at 1440P, a little less so. I would personally hold off, but if you have too much money and want to spend it, it'd be a good upgrade. Just don't get an Asrock motherboard.

Part of it was to upgrade myself and I was planning on repurposing the old parts to build a PC for my daughter.

Go for it, unless you want to save money and settle for a used Intel 13th or 14th gen system using DDR4 memory. Combo deals from resellers for those are few and far in-between, though.

Between the two options listed, the 9850X3D with the X870 board is definitely worth $20 over the 9800X3D and B650E board.

I hate that the Microcenter 7700x and 9700x bundles are limited to B650 boards. Also ridiculous the 7600X bundle gets a B650E board but the 7600X3D gets a B850. If it wasn't for the fact that the 7600X bundle is limited to 16gb of RAM, I would say that's a better budget option for you while keeping easy upgrade paths. Maybe check your current RAM usage and see if you can get away with 16gb of RAM? 7600X will still be a nice boost over the 5600X if you were going to build anyways, and will allow you to drop in a Zen 6 X3D chip later for a big leap in CPU gaming performance when you need it.

As for the AMD chipsets- B650E, X670E, X870, and X870E boards have PCI-E 5.0 for the GPU. All other boards (B650, X670, B850, etc) have PCI-E 4.0, making them slightly less future-proof. X870 and X870E make USB4 Gen 3x2 mandatory while other boards are optional. Otherwise, the chipsets are identical: B650 = B650E = B850 = X870, and X670 = X670E = X870E.
 
It also depends on what games or types of games you're playing. Even with RAM prices I'd upgrade right now to a 9850x3d if I had the cash. It would make a massive difference for the main game I play as it's a CPU limited MMO and chokes the shit out of my 5800x now that I went from 1080p to 1440p.
 
To answer your questions :
1- will it be noticeable or worth it?
At 1440p resolution the frame rate difference will be highly dependent on actual game being played and generally won’t show up until you’re in the 150+ fps range. Whether the upgrade is worth it is up to you. If this is only for gaming then most likely not with the significant expense, but if also for productivity and future proofing then there’s a chance this is the best combo deal that will be available for a while. MC already lowered the price $50 so can’t see them lowering it more

2-Which board to get if you decide to upgrade
Of the two you linked to the x870 board is better. Has more m2 slots, more memory capacity, has WiFi 7, and has usb4. The b650e board is nice as well but for features is not to the same level as the x870 mentioned.

Best experiment for you would be to ask one of these questions
1-Will I be upgrading or building another system any time in the next 3 years? If the answer is yes then you should buy a CPU, Ram and Mobo combo now.
2-will my experience in games I play improve significantly if the FPS jumps from 150 to 200fps and above? If yes, then get one of those combos now.
