Should I upgrade to TX 650?

My rig is in my sig, but next month I will be buying a 4870 1Gb or a GTX 260 216, and the month after that I will be getting a Q9550.

I plan to OC both (on air, so nothing major) and I was about to push the button on a TX650 when I read more than a couple of reviews that say that in fact the VX450 that I already have can reach up to 570W. This being the case, would I really need to upgrade the PSU at all?

I'd prefer not to spend the money if it wasn't really necessary....!

Looks like the load on the PSU with the new components will be around 500w or so. I would recommend upgrading to the 650TX. Better to be safe than sorry.

The VX450W is rated at +12V@33A, the TX650W is rated at +12V@52A.

Either the GTX260 or the 4870 1GB (not OC'ed) should draw a max of about +12V@16A, with a total system draw (not OC'ed) of about 300W,
almost all of it in +12V amperage, so a total of about +12V@25A (with nothing OC'ed).

As you can see the VX450W will power it, not OC'ed, but you are pushing it and since you plan on OC'ing, which can increase power consumption 10% to 30%, the upgrade to the TX650W is recommended to maintain headroom, allow for your OC'ing & provide for cool & quiet operation of your PSU.

Always Build with the Best,
Dave:)

That's easy enough then, after April 6th (when we see how prices are affected by the 4890 release) I will be ordering one new GFX card and one new TX650! Nice!
