Should I go for U2410 or...

Dell U2410 looks like the last of the bloodline in 24-inch display with 16:10 Aspect ratio. IPS display so extremely good for gaming and design. The only thing is missing is Led Backlight display.
I am not sure when will Dell launch a 24 inch display with Led Blacklit Display. So should i buy a U2410 or will Dell soon launch a similar kid of display with Led Blacklight Support??

There are 2 conditions that will affect my decision.

1) If Dell launches a 24 inch display with IPS as well as Led Blacklit Display by October or maximum by December, I can wait for it, else I will buy U2410.

2) If that display has an aspect ratio of 16:9 compared to 16:10 (With industry moving from 1920 X 1200 to 1920 X 1080) then I will go for U2410

What is your suggestion? I don't know much about Led Blacklit Display, but does it really gives the feel of a CRT?

LED backlight is a backlight, and does the function of the backlight the exact same way as the older backlight do, IIRC. There are differences ad nauseum - although the biggest thing for me is that I heard around that not every calibration device can calibrate LED displays correctly.
 
So whats so special about this thing that so many people have complained about it in latest high end displays which have'nt implement this functionality??
 
People tend to gravitate to hot tech. For monitors "LED" is HOT!!!

Why? 'Cause it's new. What's so great about it?

1. A little power saving compared to traditional CCFL backlight.
2. Monitors can be made thinner and "sexier".
3. Slight premium for this new fangled tech.

Do I personally care? No.
 
The only "user" advantage to LED is that it reaches full brightness faster than CCFL backlight. So in this case, unless the user is required to calibrate on a regular basis, LED really doesn't provide a great advantage.

I don't think it's an important "must have" or even really a "nice-to-have" creature comfort.
 
The only advantageous thing about LED backlight is that it has a much longer life than traditional.
 
If this isn't that great, then why there is so much compaint on Dell 2711 in this messageboard, when it has all the good qualities except lack of backlight Led??
 
Because LCD tech is constantly developing, but not by leaps and bounds. It inches in every generation, but fanboys, nerds, geeks, whatever you want to call them, rave about each inch and complain how crappy their "old" (last year's) monitors suck in comparison.

Advice, just pick one that will suit your needs at your budget, don't go high end because they are ALWAYS overpriced.

Cause its the latest and greatest and thats what everyone wants whethers its better or not.

An LED backlight won't give the feel of a CRT, I don't think LCDs in general will anytime soon, no matter how they are backlit.

Go for the U2410, IMO. I have one and like it. They are shipping Rev A01 now, so the dithering will be fixed. If you are unlucky enough to get a screen with green/pink tint (though I think this is rare IMO), you can always exchange it as I am sure you would also find a stuck bright pixel on your screen, right? Dell doesn't warranty the green/pink tint but they do warranty bright pixels. So...I shall stop this train of thought right here and you can choose the rest...

U2410 offers a lot for the price.
 
Having the two U2410s for a few weeks (one A00 returned and another A01 kept), I love this monitor. I would say go for it if you find it @ their lowest price.

I was also in the same situation with concerns about the lack of LED backlights. However, unless you mount it on a wall, the slim factor should not be in consideration as the base of the stand takes up more space than the monitor case itself.

Also it is up to the manufacturer what case they use. Dell has been using a similar case for the past few years probably for cost reduction, I doubt if the situation changes, unless out of new competition.
 
I'd recommend a u2410 but I kept getting dead pixels, after 3 exchanges I gave up and got my full refund.

Now looking at Dell u2711 but it's a CCFL and I dunno it's it's worth buying a CCFL if LED is moving into mainstream now with its oh so thinny appearance and fast charge rate.

Just got my replacement u2410...happy so far. They are shipping A01 revisions even in replacements now

crap that just cost me another 300 plus taxes....dell.ca had them on sale for 499 up to a few days ago...but now that their back tp full price that might just enough to stop me from buying them...dammit. cmon dell lets have another sale in feb/march. on that topic, does dell often put the screens on sale or was this some fluke? if its a periodic sale i might be tempted to wait a bit longer.
 
Like every other week there prices fluctuate. You could probably write that Dell rep from the other thread on the 2209 screen and get a cut rate as well.
 
Go for the U2410 now or wait a year or two. LED will own when the semiconductor tech gets more advanced, but as of now it's only as good as ccfls.

Thanks, I guess A01 is a the firmware revision that which can up upgraded online, Can you send me an image so that I can have an idea how green/pink tint is like? I need to take a look at it before purchasing it

Yes, there was no problems flashing the bios on my own.

As maverick said, only a few people get the tint issues. Mine has been perfect(except dithering) since day one.

Edge-lit LED displays cannot do local dimming, which rules out pretty much every computer monitor there is.

There are a couple of exceptions of though, like the HP 2480 and a couple of LaCie models use full array LED, prices with starting at around $2000 for the HP and the smallest LaCie. But they don't do local dimming either.
 
The HP LP2475w is a cheaper alternative to the U2410. If you get one that's made in March '09 or newer they will use the same H-IPS panel as the Dell, and has a less aggresive AG coating. They're going for $543 shipped UPS through ProVantage. Got mine from TigerDirect for the same price through a price match. Should ship from HP tomorrow or Tuesday since TD doesn't keep them in stock.
 
go with the NEC 2490WUXI, the down fall to this monitor is the high premium, you can get a Dell 3008 for almost the same price, but if your looking a great SIPS monitor you wont regret it. I have both the 2490WUXI and U2410 at work and there is no comparison.

Problem is it's almost impossible to find a 2490WUXi with the A-TW polarizer anymore. All I've seen is the 2490WUXi2 (without the A-TW polarizer) and for it's price, the HP and Dell are better deals. IMO, unless you edit video and photos professionally day-in and day-out, the LP2475w and the U2410 are more than enough for daily use.
