Should I go crossfire?

Well, I think I need a little help deciding here. Currently I have an MSI K8N, opty 140 @2.25 and 2 gigs @ 1T 2-2-2-2 a 74 gb raptor, X-FI, and ATI 1900XT with the Accelero X2.

Should/could I just add a crossfire master and a new mobo for now? Would it fit with 2 acceleros? I don't like the stock coolers at all.

Should I sell the 1900xt for a 1950xtx?

I am just looking for something to ensure 1600x1200 at high settings until Vista.

I can spend like $650 bucks give or take 50.

Wait on the next gen cards?

Suggestions?

1600x1200 at high settings eh? CF would certainly help, obviously, since you'd get the highest performance possible. I wouldn't say that CF is absolutely necessary, but it would definitely help.

As far as selling your card goes...if you're considering CF, why not sell the 1900XT and get an X1950XTX? I mean, you'll get the best of the last generation of ATi cards, and if you do decide to go CF in future, you need only purchase a 2nd card.

How much faster is the 1950XTX than a stock 1900XT? 10%? not really worth it imo. Are there other features?

I know this is an ATI forum here, but if I was you, I would crossfire your setup, "OR" look into the 7950GX2 maybe......

nah the gx2 isn't the best option. CF beats it in most scenarios.

10% on average + a new cooler. not worth the extra $120 since you can by an accelero x2 for $25.

Crossfire "MIGHT" beat it in some cases, but when you "SLI" the GX2, all hell breaks lose.

oh well, seems like there's no easy solution atm. guess I will just sit on my $$ until I really NEED to upgrade. atm every game runs ok except FEAR at high settings.

No... Crossfire murders the GX2 at high resolutions w/ eye candy pumped.

His wallet might break loose also. The GX2 doesn't always work in quad sli combination. Driver improvement should help that, but when?

So I gues you could say all hell MIGHT break loose.

QFT
I've seen some benches that show CF being dominated by 2x GX2, but then I've also seen some benches showing CF beating the GX2...I think I'll stick with two GPUs that give me roughly the same performance of 4 GPUs.

waiting for the refresh. I can still manage 40-100 fps on BF2 POE2 at max settings 1600x1200 so yeah no need atm. just a few more months? we'll see.
